After a threat was received this morning at Salem Schools, lockdown procedures were initiated. However, investigators at the Salem Police Department have determined that the report of an alleged threat to the safety of students at Salem Community Schools to be not credible, and that the students are safe.
Early Friday morning, Salem Police officers received a report of an alleged threat by a student to do harm to students at the Salem Community schools.
The school was closed at the time due to a two-hour delay caused by snow and cold temperatures on Thursday.
The Salem Police Department immediately initiated an investigation, and determined that the report was not accurate. School started on time after the weather delay with no further delay.
The investigation revealed that the statement was made outside of the school, and was not a threat to do harm to other students, but a statement by the student that he wanted to hurt himself.
Officers assured that the student will receive the appropriate mental health referrals.
