Bruce Gray, a former two-term Washington County Sheriff and long-time Republican leader passed away today at the age of 84.

Gray served two terms as sheriff from 1974 to 1982. He served as the GOP Central Committee County Chair for several years. He also served on the City Council Member. He was appointed Interim Mayor in 1983. Gray also served as a former Superintendent of the State Highway


He was also manager of Imperier Mobile Home Park in Kentucky and a Supervisor at Superwash carwash in Salem.

He is survived by his wife, Naomi, one son, David, a brother, Donald, a grandson and a great grandson.

Gray was born Friday, November 1, 1929 in Pekin, Indiana, the son of the late Herman N. Gray and Rowena B. (Terrell) Gray.

He was a member of the New Providence Lodge # 237 , Borden Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #588 , and the Scottish Rite.

Survivors include: wife, Naomi (Coats) Gray of Salem; 1 son, David Gray of Salem; 1 brother, Donald Gray of Salem; Sandra
Sue Nichols of Salem; 1 grandson Ryan Gray of Salem; 1 great grandson, Stephen Gray of Salem.

Preceded in death by: parents, 1 sister Joyce Elliott, 1 grandson Troy Gray and 1 great grandson Darren Gray.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday at the Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home in Salem. Viewing will be from 4-8 PM
Friday with a Masonic Service at 7:00 PM, and Saturday viewing from 11:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery.
