Tuesday morning, at approximately 10:00 am, the Indiana State Police, Seymour Police Department, and Jackson County Sheriff’s Department responded to a head on collision on State Road 258, just west of Seymour which resulted in a Seymour woman being flown to an Indianapolis Hospital with serious injuries.

According to the initial investigation by Sgt. Stephen Wheeles, a 2012 Freightliner hauling a box trailer, being driven by Richard A. Santel, age 46, Carlyle, IL was traveling eastbound on State Road 258 approaching Bell Ford Drive when the vehicle crossed the centerline for an unknown reason.

Santel’s vehicle, which was owned by Rose Acre Farms, struck a westbound 2012 Chevrolet Equinox being driven by Nancy S. Wilson, age 75, Seymour, Indiana.

After the collision, both vehicles left the roadway before coming to a stop. The Seymour Fire Department and Jackson County EMS responded to the scene and extricated Wilson from her vehicle. She was then airlifted from the scene to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment of her injuries.

Her condition is unknown at this time. Santel was not injured in the crash.

As required by law, Santel submitted to a drug and alcohol screen at a nearby medical facility. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be factors in this collision.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

Sgt. Wheeles was assisted by other troopers from the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post, officers from the Seymour Police Department and Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Jackson County EMS, Seymour Fire Department, Hamilton Township Fire Department, and 31 Wrecker Service.
