On December 27, 2016 at approximately 3:41 PM the Jackson County Sheriff Department responded to a unknown type accident on Interstate 65 near the 50 mile marker.

A 911 caller stated the driver of the vehicle took off running over the guard rail and away from the vehicle.

Jackson County Deputy Rick Meyer saw the male running on the railroad tracks underneath the Interstate. Meyer requested Seymour Police Department to assist and Seymour Officer Ben Miller apprehended the subject hiding next to the railroad tracks.

Jonathan Joel Ojeda-Melendez 23 of Seymour was the driver of the 2002 Dodge passenger car.

Jonathan said he lost control of the vehicle on the Interstate and struck a guard rail, became scared because he didn’t have a license, and ran.

Ojeda-Melendez was arrested for driving while never receiving a license, resisting law enforcement and leaving the scene of an accident.
