Former Washington County Fair Board President, County Election Board Member and local farmer Maurice Lee Day, 72, was killed Saturday around 2p when a tractor tire exploded at 115 N. Harristown Road.
Day was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Washington County Deputy Paul Reyling.
Police were called at approximately 2:20 pm, about a male subject lying on the ground, unresponsive, at 115 N. Harristown Road.
According to Reyling, law enforcement and emergency medical services responded to the call and located a male subject lying on the ground, next to a tractor.
Day was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency medical services.
Evidence at the scene indicated that Day was changing tires on a tractor. and that the right front tire had ruptured, causing blunt force trauma to Day’s head and upper torso.
Paul Reyling is the lead investigating officer.
Washington County Ambulance Service, Washington County Coroner’s Office and Deputy Dustin Pridemore were also involved in the investigation.
