Harriett Jean Elgin, age 78 of Campbellsburg, Indiana passed away Sunday, November 6, 2022 at 5:25 pm, in Baptist Health Floyd New Albany.
 
Born November 12, 1943 in Scottsburg, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Harry P. and Minnie Mae (Bobo) Bateman.  

She was a bus driver for the West Washington and Salem School Systems, retiring in August 2022 and also worked in the school cafeteria.
She had been a life resident of Washington and Scott Counties and was a 
member of the Sugar Creek Christian Church and Southern Indiana for Independent Living.  Jean was an advocate for special needs, helping to see they had equal rights. She made thousands of quilts to ensure her loved ones never went cold.

On June 28, 1964 she married Ronald Lynn Elgin, who passed away March 14, 2012.  

Survivors include:   
2 Daughters: Rose Ann Snelling and Mary Alice Simms of Salem;   
3 Sisters: Terry Forget of Leesburg, Florida, Linda Allen of Kingston, Alabama and Carry Gray of Scottsburg; 1 Brother: Bernard “Cotton” Bateman of Washington and 5 grandchildren: Cassandra and Chandra Snelling and Jackson, Abigayl and Emma Simms.  

She was preceded in death by Siblings: Mary Rice, Leo Bateman, Cleo Bateman, Sue Harnden and a Son-in-Law: Dennie Snelling.  

Funeral Service: 7:00 pm Monday at Dawalt Funeral Home.
Visitation: 3 to 7 pm Monday.
