“We are excited to have this opportunity to raise money for our annual giving campaign.  Last year the Washington County Family YMCA gave away over $30,000 to families and children in our community so they could have the opportunity to participate in YMCA programs and membership.  We can only hope to give away even more this year” said Kristy Purlee, Quality Membership Director of the Washington County Family YMCA.  “We are blessed to be part of a community where people feel moved to give to our organization.”

The winner will be chosen on Sept. 10th at the YMCA.  Fans of IU won’t want to miss this great opportunity to win tickets to a great game and also support a local non-profit organization.

The mission of the YMCA is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy mind, body and spirit for all.  Our impact is made when an individual makes a healthy choice, when a role mode inspires a child and when a community comes together for the common good.

“We wanted to bring something different to the community for our annual 5K event” said Membership Director Kristy Purlee,  of the Washington County Family YMCA. “Partnering with WSLM to add music to the course was a perfect way to add something new and different.  We also had some really good feedback from last year’s race and have brought in the assistance of Pacers and Racers in New Albany to help us out this year.”

The Rock N Run 5K will be held Saturday October 28th with registration opening at 7:30 am and race starting at 8:30 am.  Early registration is now open through Septemer 20th and entry fee is $18 for adults and $10 for youth ages 6-13.  Age 5 and under are free.  Early registrants will receive an event t-shirt.  Late registration will be accepted up until the morning of the race  but are not guaranteed a t-shirt.  Cost for late registration will be $25 for adults and $15 for youth.

Purlee added “This event is not just for serious runners, in the past we have had several families participate together ranging from toddlers to seniors.  We hope to have many families register to walk or run this together.”  To sign up or ask questions, stop by our front desk or contact Purlee ([email protected] or 812-883-YMCA).   You can also register online by visiting our website at www.wcfymca.org.
