Manufacturers will shift full production onto the more energy-efficient, Compact Flourescent Lamp (CFLs) bulbs. Those are the ones that look like curly fries. Purdue University State Utility Forecasting Group Director Douglas Gotham says manufacturers had already begun phasing out the 100 and 75-watt incandescent bulbs back in 2012.

Even though some folks don‘t like the newer bulbs, Gotham says the move is all about energy efficiency. Gotham says lighting remains an area where environmental efficiencies are still needed. Retailers are expected to continue to sell the old, incandescent bulbs until supplies run out.

Gotham says folks who don‘t like CFL bulbs may want to try out LED lightbulbs which are even more energy efficient, but they‘re also more expensive.
