On today’s date at approximately 12:00 pm, an off duty detective sergeant with the Indiana State Post at Sellersburg was driving his police issued unmarked Dodge Charger on County Road #311 in the New Albany area, when a gold colored 2003 Ford Crown Victoria attempted to conduct a traffic stop on him.
The sergeant did not recognize the Crown Victoria as being a police vehicle but the driver flashed a gold colored badge at him and motioned him into a parking lot. The driver of the Crown Victoria, later identified as John A. Brock, 42, of Smith Road in Borden, IN, pulled up beside the detective and said he was a police officer, yelled curse words and threats, and then drove off, parked his car, and went inside of a retail store.
The detective contacted other officers who arrived at the scene and when the driver of the gold Crown Victoria exited the retail store and got back into his car, he was stopped by a trooper. He was then arrested for Operating While Intoxicated, Driving While Suspended and Impersonating a Police Officer.
He was incarcerated at the Floyd County Jail awaiting his first court appearance.
This investigation is continuing with the Indiana State Police asking anyone in the public who thinks they were stopped by John A. Brock impersonating a police officer to contact the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg at 1-800-872-6743 or outside of Indiana at 812-246-5424.
