A Jeffersonville police officer responding to a bank alarm crashed his patrol car today into another vehicle, sending both drivers to the hospital.

Today at 3:00 pm, Jeffersonville City Police Officer, Robert E. Grinesteff II, 29, of Jeffersonville, IN, was driving his 2007 fully marked Jeffersonville City Police Car, with the emergency lights and siren activated, east on 10th Street.

When he approached the intersection of Main Street he crashed into a Red 2011 Honda CRZ, driven by Mary Love Thornton, 47, of Charlestown, IN.

The crash occurred at the intersection in the lane of the police car travelling east. It is unknown at this time if the Honda CRZ was west on 10th Street making a left turn or if the vehicle was crossing 10th Street going north on Main Street.

Both drivers were transported to The University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, KY by ground ambulance. Both drivers complained of pain and both drivers’s, (only occupants), were wearing their seat belts.

At the time of the crash the Jeffersonville City Police Car was responding to a bank robbery alarm.

This investigation is continuing with the above information being preliminary. The Indiana State Police is the lead agency in the crash.
