A Freetown man died after crashing his vehicle into a tree Tuesday night in Lawrence County.
According to a Lawrence County Police report, 48-year-old Stephen Springer of Freetown was on U.S. 50 West, just east of Huron/Wililams Road when his 2011 Dodge Nitro went off the southside of the road.
Lawrence County Police received the call at 7:39 p.m., and when officers arrived personnel from Seals Ambulance Service informed police Springer was already dead. They found that Springer had no pulse and that he was not breathing. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Lawrence County Coroner Rob Herr.
J. Wheelock and Detective Tyler Phillips investigated the crash. Wheelock noted in his report that roadway evidence indicated the vehicle went off the south side of the road, overcorrected and passed the westbound lane and went down a ditch, striking a tree. The vehicle was inverted and the driver was wearing his seat belt. An autopsy is pending to determine cause of death.
Assiting at the scene were the Huron Volunteer Fire Department, Bedford Fire Department and a Seals ambulance crew.
Funeral arrangements have not been made at this time.
