Arrested for the crimes of Theft and Burglary is Sherman M. Skinner, age 31, of West Mulberry Street in Salem.  Police acted on several tips that were relayed to them via phone and Facebook, resulting in the charges against Skinner.  Officer Ronnie Mays made the arrest this afternoon.

On Sunday, April 27th, 2014 at approximately 07:00 HRS, the Salem Police Department received a call about a burglary that had occurred at Nice’s Family Restaurant in Salem.  Officers Chris Cauble and Terry Corbin responded and investigated.  The bottom of the front door had been pried open and someone had entered the building.  The cash register had been taken with approximately $256.00 inside of it.

They were then shown a video of a thin male with a thin beard attempting to open the cash register with a knife and screw driver.  The suspect was dressed in a black hoodie with stripes on it and a camouflage hat.  The suspect could be seen on the video retrieving bills from the register with the knife.  It also appeared that the male suspect was wearing a large ring on his left hand that appeared to be silver in color. The suspect then took the cash register and left the building

They then discovered that a neighboring business, Rex Jackson’s Tune Up had been burglarized also.  A person had entered the building and taken several items, including tools.

Over the past several days, Officers Ronnie Mays, Eric Mills, Terry Corbin, and Scott Ratts have been investigating the crimes.  The officers uncovered evidence over the past few days which led to the arrest of Skinner.
