A birthday party 200 years in the making will take place this Saturday, Sept. 27 in Salem as both Salem and Washington County celebrate its founding in 1814.
Events will kick off on Saturday morning with a Bicentennial edition of the 2nd Annual WSLM – Washington County Family YMCA Rock N Run at 7a at the local Y.
At 9a, the Salem Public Library will take the top off the 1964 time capsule. Items will be removed and publically put on display at the library at 4p.
Mayor David Bower will hold a free public brunch at the American Legion at 10a.
At noon, several organizations will hold a Birthday party for kids on the courthouse lawn.
Later at 2p, the bicentennial parade will be held, followed by WSLM’s Homegrown Concert LIVE on the southside of the Courthouse. The concert includes local and regional acts who will be playing from 4-10p. The concert is free. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy.
Fireworks will end the evening at the Washington County Fairgrounds and those in the downtown area will have a great view of them.
