Standing in the Indiana Senate chamber surrounded by fellow legislators and her family, Senator-elect Erin Houchin took the oath of office today, officially becoming the State Senator representing District 47. Houchin was sworn in by Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Loretta Rush.
Houchin, one of eight new members of the Indiana Senate, will serve all of Crawford, Orange, Harrison, Perry and Washington counties, and eastern Dubois County. She fills the Senate seat previously held by State Sen. Richard Young.
“I am very passionate about promoting the growth and stability of Southern Indiana,” Houchin said. “I am eager to start work at the Statehouse and support policies that create jobs and keep taxes low. As a wife and mother to three children, it is a priority to empower parents and invest in educational opportunities for our future generations.”
Houchin is a 2007 graduate of the Indiana Leadership Forum (ILF) and elected President of her class. She received the ILF Founder’s Award for achievements in politics. In 2008, Houchin was one of 50 women from throughout the world selected to attend the Women’s Campaign School at Yale University. She is also a graduate of the Richard G. Lugar Excellence in Public Service Series.
Houchin and her husband, Dustin, live in Salem with their three children.
