Future Purdue men’s and women’s basketball team members Ryan Cline and Tiara Murphy were announced as participants in the 2015 American Family Insurance High School Three-Point Championships on Tuesday. The fifth-annual event will be held April 1 at Carmel High School in Carmel, Indiana, and will air nationally on CBS on April 5, at 3:30 p.m. (ET).
Cline and Murphy are one of seven athletes invited nationwide on the men’s and women’s sides, respectively, to compete in the event. One of two signees for the Boilermaker men, Cline will shoot on his home court as he’s starred for the Greyhounds for the past four seasons. The 2015 Indiana Mr. Basketball candidate has been named a four-star recruit by ESPN.com, and earned MVP honors of the Adidas Super 64 tournament, leading Indiana Elite to the team title. He helped Carmel to the 2013 Indiana 4A State Championship as a sophomore and shot 43 percent from long distance and earned a spot on the Indy Star Indiana Junior All-Star Team in 2014. In his final high school season, Cline averaged 21 points per game and led his team all the way to the regional finals.
Murphy is one of five members of one of the top-ranked signing classes in Purdue women’s basketball history, earning five-star rankings from several recruiting services, including the No. 30 spot in ESPN Hoop Gurlz Top-100. Competing for South Bend Washington High School, Murphy scored over 1,500 points in her career, including 18.6 points per game this season. Knocking down 36 triples on the year, Murphy also averaged 6.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 5.3 steals per game. Recently named to the 2015 Indiana Senior High School All-Star team, Murphy also played on the state junior all-state squad last summer.
“This is a talented group of student-athletes,” said Telisa Yancy, vice president of Marketing at American Family Insurance. “It is their hard work, dedication and persistence that have gotten them to this point in their careers. We are excited to provide them this opportunity to celebrate those characteristics.”
