The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to restrict traffic for up to 90 days at the U.S. Highway 31 bridge over Stucker Ditch and the Louisville & Indiana Railroad tracks in Scott County—located approximately two miles north of State Road 56. Bridge-Closed-630x472

American Contracting of Jefferson is the state’s contractor for this $886,833 Seymour District preservation project that will implement repairs and install a bridge deck overlay on the U.S. 31 I-beam structure which measures 479 feet in length with 44 feet of clear roadway side-to-side.

Temporary signals at either end of the bridge will allow motorists to maintain alternating access to a single lane crossing the U.S. 31 bridge during construction operations.  Phase I calls for work to be done on the east half of the bridge while traffic is channeled to the southbound side.  Phase II, shifts traffic to the northbound side while work is completed on the west half of the bridge.

American Contracting is charged with milling away the existing bridge deck overlay, using hydro-demolition to remove residual materials, placing full-depth deck patching, replacing bridge joints, pouring new pavement approaches and installing a 1¾-inch latex modified concrete overlay on the bridge’s deck.

The contract completion date is August 31.
