Tuesday’s Primary Election will set the field for this fall’s mayoral race in the City of Salem.
(R) Jason Cockerill, current Washington County Assessor, will face (R) Ron Haendiges, a State Farm insurance agent for the Republican nomination.
(D) Judy K. Chastain, former Salem Mayor and long-time Clerk-Treasurer and (D) Troy Merry, City of Salem Police Chief.
Hank Jacoby D) who was running for Mayor, will remain on the ballot, although he passed away on Thursday, April 16.
In other races, there are no Republicans on the ballot of City of Salem Clerk-Treasurer.
There will be a race for Democratic nomination as incumbent (D) Patricia Day Persinger and former Washington County Treasurer (D) Kevin W. Stewart.
