The State Road 56 Reconstruction project is on the move again – this time moving the recent closure on East 56 a little closure to the City of Salem.
According to project manager Jason Uhl, the closure that has prevented traffic from proceeding on East 56 past the bypass and on to Scottsburg will be open next week.
“On Friday 5/22/15 by noon we will be moving the closure from its current location to just west of Country Cooking and the apartments,” Uhl noted in an email. “The road will still be officially closed but open to local traffic at the intersection of SR 56/135 and at Salem Hardwoods, however no traffic will be able to get through at County Cooking and the apartments.”
However, traffic can take the temporary bypass behind Meadow View Healthcare and Parkview Drive to be able to access State Road 56 East beyond this point.
“The same detour route will stay in place. It will be closed at this location for 1-2 weeks and will then be moved east between the Cobblestone Hotel and Country Cooking,” wrote Uhl.
Uhl said he would notify everyone again when the work would be ready to move to that location.
The overall project is expected to be completed by September and will widen State Road 56 and see the inclusion of sidewalks.
