According to Indiana State Trooper Travis Baker, Kristen E Potter, 19, was driving a Black 2014 VW Jetta on State Road 135 South. Her passenger was Sidney Burger, 19.

Potter stopped in the road to signal a left turn and was waiting to make the turn, said Baker.

At that time, the car was rear ended by a 1997 Green Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Michael A Abell, 32.

Baker said Abell was arrested for driving while suspended with a prior conviction, a Level 6 Felony.

Baker said the Jeep flipped over and was leaking gas on SR 135.

Initially a helicopter ambulance was called in from Louisville because Burger reported no feeling in her legs and feet.

Baker said all passengers were wearing seatbelts.

“The helicopter landed but was not needed,” said Baker. “Burger reported she had began getting feeling back in her legs and feet. The two were taken by ambulance to Floyd Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.”

Abell refused medical treatment and was taken from the scene. “It was amazing he didn’t have any bruises,” said Baker. “He said he wasn’t paying attention and looked up and saw them.”
