Bristow Teen Killed in Car Versus Moped Crash in Perry County

A Bristow teen was killed last night east of Saint Meinrad after the moped he was riding was struck by another vehicle.

Around 7:10 P.M. Central Time, Phoenix Donaldson, 18, Bristow, pulled out from the driveway at 740 Bristow-Saint Meinrad Road. As Donaldson pulled out into the southbound lane, he was struck by a northbound 2007 Chevrolet Aveo driven by Brock Smith, 26, Tell City.

Smith locked up his brakes south of the driveway, leaving tire marks prior to and after the crash.

Smith, 17460 Aetna Road, Tell City, was charged with Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death, Level 4 Felony and Operating While Intoxicated – Controlled Substance, Class C Misdemeanor.

Donaldson was pronounced dead by the Perry County Coroner’s Office.

After further investigation, it was determined that Smith had operated his vehicle under the influence of methamphetamine. He was placed into custody without incident and is being held at the Perry County Jail.

This crash remains under investigation by the State Police. ISP was assisted by the Perry County Sheriff’s Department, Saint Meinrad Fire, Spencer County EMS and the Perry County Coroner’s Office.
