Thomas Lenord “Tom” Monroe, age 90, passed into the arms of his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, September 29, 2015.

Tom was born on October 20, 1924 in Lawrenceburg, KY to Lenord Goodlow Monroe and Genie Wilson Monroe. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father committed to his family, for his Christian faith, strong work ethic, honesty, and integrity in all he did. He will be greatly missed by family, friends and neighbors who knew him as one you could always depend on, as a wise advisor and mentoring role model. Tom never met a stranger.

Tom was a graduate of Corydon Central High School Class of 1943 and a World War II veteran in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater serving in the US Army 823rd Ordnance Base Depot Company as T-4 Sergeant with an Honorable Discharge in 1946. He was a member of Unity Chapel United Methodist Church, Ramsey, IN, the Corydon Pisgah Masonic Lodge #32, the Ramsey Spencer Grange and Hoosier Knobs C.A.R. Club. He was a retired Board of Director of Peoples Bank and Trust, Corydon. After his service in the military, Tom went to work for Mobil Oil Company as a local agent and distributor from 1948-1993. He continued that affiliation with Mobil after starting and retiring from his own company, Monroe Oil in 1993.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Betty Lou Wiseman Monroe, daughters, Dr. Lynne Monroe Wheat, Nancy Monroe Lopp (David), grandchildren, Warner Thomas Wheat (Caroline), Emily Ruth Ludwig (Chris) and three great grandchildren, Madeline Allen and Warner Worthington Wheat and Jacob Thomas Ludwig, brother, Davis Monroe (Matilda) and sister, Juanita Monroe Williams (Arthur, deceased) and many other family members and friends.

He was proceeded in death by his daughter, Robin Monroe Wolfe (Brian), parents, Lenord and Genie Monroe and brothers, Gilbert Monroe (Wilma), Howard Monroe (Catherine), Charles Monroe (Doris) and John Hawthorne.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 1, 2015 from 4 – 8 P.M., Friday, October 2, 2015 from 1 – 8 P.M. at Swarens Funeral Home, Ramsey, IN. The funeral will be Saturday,

October 3, 2015 at 11 A.M. at Unity Chapel United Methodist Church in Ramsey, IN with interment at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon, IN.

Masonic rites will be Friday, October 2, 2015 at 7 P.M.

Remembrances may be made to The Harrison County Community Foundation Robin Monroe Thieneman Wolfe Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of Tom and Robin.
