TRAFFIC STOPS LEAD TO DRUG ARRESTS IN PEKIN

Two separate traffic stops by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department have led to the arrest of two Pekin men on drug related charges.

Danny Wall, 46, Pekin, and Mathhew Schaffer, 32, Albertson Road in Pekin were both arrested last week in separate traffic stops.

Wall was stopped on October 6th and was found to have an outstanding contempt of court charge.

According to Sheriff Roger Newlon, evidence at the stop lead to a search warrant being issued for Wall’s home.

“We ended up charging him for one Count of Possession of a Synthetic drug, an A misdemeanor,” said Newlon. “A synthetic drug is like spice…that type of thing,” said Newlon.

Wall was also charged with Maintaining a Common nuisance, level 6 Felony, Operating while License Suspended, A Misdemeanor.

Newlon said on October 9th in the evening, another traffic stop yielded the arrest of Schaffer.

Evidence in the vehicle and his statements lead to a search warrant of his residence and property,” said Newlon. “He also had a writ of attachment for failure to appear.”

Schaffer was charged with two counts of Possession of a Synthetic Drug, both A Misdemeanors.

Newlon said the drug was found in both the home and some in the car.

Schaffer was also charged with Two counts of Maintaining a Common Nuisance, Level 6 Felonies; Two counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, A Misdemeanor.

Newlon said Marijuana plants were found behind Schaffer’s garage and he was also charged with one count of Possession of Marijuana, a B Misdemeanor.

Newlon said the investigation continues with Schaffer due to the seizure of several guns at the home.

On both cases, Pekin Town Marshall Jeff Thomas assisted.
