The Board of Directors met Monday evening and offered Purlee the position.
“After much prayer and discussion with my husband, I accepted the interim CEO opportunity with our YMCA…” said Purlee.  “I want you to know  that I am excited to step into a new leadership role within our Organization. My top priority will be to support [the current YMCA staff] in doing the jobs [they] already do well.”
Over the next several months Purlee said she will be seeking to develop her leadership skills to best serve the local Y.
In a email to staff, Purlee explained her passion for the organization. “Last week I attended a Y leadership conference and I learned that passion and love for community and what the Y does are qualities that cannot be taught. I promise you I love the Y and hold it in high regard. “
Purlee said she wants to continue to grow the organization and ultimately a stronger Washington County.
She replaces Rob Gilchrist, who served as the CEO of the YMCA for the past 19 months. Gilchrist took a position near his hometown in New York.
Purlee works with WSLM in their annual 5K Rock n’ Run to benefit the YMCA and is a guest host each month on WSLM radio in the mornings, which helps promote the YMCA in the Kentuckiana area.
