The Indiana State Police is the lead investigating agency for the earlier officer involved shooting in Howard County.

There are no updates on the condition of the officers at this time.

The area around the crime scene has been rendered safe and there is no immediate threat to residents. Updates will come as information is gathered.

Two sheriff’s deputies were shot in Russiaville early Sunday morning, leaving one in critical condition.

The injured officers were identified as Sgt. Jordan Buckley, a 9-year veteran of the force, and Deputy Carl Koontz. Koontz was reportedly in very critical condition.

The incident started around 12:30 a.m. when several Howard Co. sheriff’s deputies went to the 300 block of W. Chandler Street to deliver an outstanding warrant out of Clinton County for possession of a syringe.

The sheriff’s department said the suspect didn’t respond when deputies knocked on the door – simply started shooting, hitting two officers.
