America “Merkie” Cornett, age 57 of Salem, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 1:33 pm, in Baptist Health Floyd Hospital.
Born December 8, 1959 in Manchester, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Lucy (Lundsford) Bishop.
She was a former cook at Kentucky Fried Chicken in Salem, a member of the Rivers of Living Waters Ministry and a graduate of the Clay County Kentucky High School.
Her survivors include: Son; Samuel L. Cornett; 2 Daughters: Tammy Pumphrey and Tracy Hollen, all of Salem; Brother: Terry Bishop, Salem; 2 Sisters: Pam Mobrley, Milan, Indiana and Beulah Henson, Manchester, Kentucky; 9 grandchildren and her former husband: Samuel Cornett of Salem.
Funeral Service: 1:00 pm Saturday at Dawalt Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Collins officiating. Committal service and Interment will follow the funeral in Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Friday at Dawalt Funeral Home and after 11 am Saturday until the time of the service.
