State Sen. Erin Houchin (R-Salem) has been named the Chairperson for the 2017 Commission on Improving the Status of Children in Indiana.
The Commission was established in 2013 as a multi-branch entity with the aim of improving the lives of Hoosier children. It studies issues concerning vulnerable youth, reviews and makes recommendations concerning pending legislation, and promotes information sharing and best practices.
“I am looking forward to working with the Commission to ensure that Hoosier children are protected and afforded the best opportunities,” Houchin said. “With my previous work as a case manager for the Indiana Department of Children Services, this issue is close to my heart. I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue to make an impact for Hoosier children and families.”
The Commission’s 2017 meetings will be held on the following dates from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Indiana Government Center South building:
- February 15
- May 10
- August 16
- November 15
All meetings are open to the public. More details are available online at www.in.gov/children.
