This picture is from the early 1960’s from the Tarr Lumber Company on South Main St.
According to Washington County Historian, Jeremy Elliott, they are advertising an old stainless vinyl floor covering and were so certain it could stand up to your household traffic, they stretched some across Main St. to let real traffic drive on it to prove it was tough!
Standing with Charles in the pic is a representative of the vinyl floor covering manufacturer.
“Previously, I believe this property was a part of the John Colglazier Lumber Yard,” recalled Elliott. “Then Charles Tarr Sr. opened this business in late 1948, as the Tarr Coal & Lumber Yard, later Charles Sr.’s son, Gary, converted it into the Goodyear Tire Center and since it has been the sight of our Goodwill Store.”
