Yesterday at approximately 2:07 p.m., a traffic stop by an Indiana state trooper led to the arrests of Takisha M. Jacobs, 39, South Bend, IN and Darius L. Marshall, 23, Indianapolis, IN.
Jacobs faces a criminal charge for driving while suspended with a prior conviction.
Marshall was arrested on a warrant issued out of Marion County, IN for a charge of attempted murder along with other counts of dealing marijuana, possession of marijuana, visiting a common nuisance, and maintaining a common nuisance.
He also faces local charges for possession of a handgun without license, with a prior conviction, and possession of marijuana.
A trooper working from the Indiana State Police Peru Post stopped a 2004 Pontiac, allegedly driven by Jacobs, for a traffic infraction on U.S. 31 near State Road 25.
While the trooper was conducting the traffic stop, a second trooper arrived to assist with a narcotics detecting police dog. The second trooper utilized the police dog to conduct a free air sniff around the Pontiac.
The dog indicated the presence of illegal narcotics inside the vehicle.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle and its occupants, officers purportedly found two loaded .45 caliber handguns, marijuana, and $2891.00 in United States currency.
Further investigation revealed that Jacobs was allegedly driving on a suspended license, with a prior conviction, and Marshall was wanted on a warrant issued out of Marion County, IN for a charge of attempted murder along with other counts of dealing marijuana, possession of marijuana, visiting a common nuisance, and maintaining a common nuisance.
They were both incarcerated in the Fulton County Jail. Jacobs for allegedly driving while suspended with a prior conviction and Marshall on the Marion County arrest warrant.
He also faces local charges for possession of a handgun without license, with a prior conviction, and possession of marijuana.
All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
