A joint investigation between the Indiana State Police and the State Fire Marshall’s Office led investigators to arrest a suspect in last week’s arson in Birdseye.
Arrested and Charged was Adam L. Hensley, 36, Birdseye, IN
– Arson, Level 4 Felony
– Residential Entry, Level 6 Felony
– Criminal Mischief, Class B Misdemeanor
Monday afternoon, Detective Brock Werne was investigating a complaint of residential entry and theft in the Birdseye area. Information received by Werne led him to investigate 36-year-old Adam Hensley of Birdseye as a primary suspect. At the same time, the State Fire Marshall’s Office was actively investigating the fire at the Koerner Block building, 101/103 State Road 145, Birdseye.
Investigators believed the fire had been maliciously set, and were also looking for Hensley as a possible suspect in the crime.
Werne later found Hensley, and placed him into custody for Residential Entry and Criminal Mischief. Hensley was transported to the Dubois County Security Center.
After taking Hensley to the Security Center, Hensley was charged with Arson based on the additional information found through the investigation of the Fire Marshall’s Office.
It was determined that Hensley set the fire to the Koerner Block building, escaped from the fire, and had a witness on-scene dial 911.
Hensley will appear in Dubois County Circuit Court today.
