64-Year-old Driver Arrested after Cocaine and Marijuana Located in Semi

A 64-year-old Mississippi semi truck driver was arrested this afternoon for smoking pot while driving his truck on I-64 in Floyd County.

Barry G. Phelps was arrested and charged with Possession of Cocaine, Dealing in Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of a Handgun without a Permit, Operating while Intoxicated and Maintaining a Common Nuisance.

 

Today at approximately 1:00 pm, trooper Patrick Stinson from the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg observed a semi-tractor and trailer traveling West on Interstate #64 near the 119 Mile Marker in Floyd County exceeding the posted speed limit.

Trooper Stinson stopped the semi-tractor and trailer and while speaking with the driver, identified as Barry G. Phelps, 64, from Vicksburg, MS, he could smell an odor of burnt Marijuana coming from the semi-tractor.

A subsequent search of the semi-tractor yielded a handgun, Cocaine, Marijuana and $7,060.00 Dollars in U. S. Currency.

Barry G. Phelps was arrested and charged with Possession of Cocaine, Dealing in Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of a Handgun without a Permit, Operating while Intoxicated and Maintaining a Common Nuisance.

Phelps was incarcerated at the Floyd County Jail.
