A former Orleans Junior-Senior High School teacher died from his injuries after a tree fell on him Sunday.
According to Sheriff Mike Branham, 76-year-old Ron Toppe, died at the scene after a tree fell on him in the 100 block of Rockwood Drive.
A passing motorist noticed the fallen tree and a truck blocking the roadway at 5:50 p.m. The driver gout out to investigate and found Toppe and called 911.
Police say Topper was clearing trees with a chainsaw when the tree split and fell back and hit him. Toppe was found unconscious and was transported by ambulance to IU Bedford Health Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
