Washington County Clerk Sarah Milligan, 28, Fredericksburg, was arrested by the Indiana State Police earlier today for driving under the influence.
She was charged with Operating a vehicle with a controlled substance in her body.
According to police she was alone in the vehicle.
It is not known what the controlled substance was. The Indiana State Police will be issuing a release with more details.
Republican Milligan defeated former County Clerk Democrat Rita Martin to win the office in the 2016 general election.
