24-Year-Old From Jasper Arrested After High Speed Chase

August 26, 2020, at approximately 3:00 p.m. (EST), Indiana State Police Jasper Sergeant George Wooten was patrolling in northern Spencer County. 

While patrolling, he measured the speed of a white Dodge traveling at 95mph on US 231. Wooten then attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle disregarded the marked State Police patrol car, with its emergency lights activated. 

Arrested was Isiah Stokes, 24, Jasper.

He was charged with:

  • Warrant from Spencer County for Probation Violation
  • Warrant from Dubois County for Assault Domestic Battery
  • Resisting Law Enforcement in a Vehicle, Felony
  • Resisting Law Enforcement on foot, Misdemeanor
  • Possession of Marijuana, Misdemeanor
  • Reckless Driving, Misdemeanor

The vehicle initially sped away from Wooten. The vehicle then stopped, and as Wooten approached the vehicle it sped off. Wooten was able to catch up to the vehicle at S.R.62. Again, the vehicle stopped and fled.

Wooten and Officer Lanman, Dale Police Department, then attempted to stop the vehicle which sped north towards I-64.

Wooten and other officers then pursued the vehicle onto I-64 traveling eastbound. The vehicle then exited the interstate near the 57-mile marker as it entered the eastbound rest park.

At the rest park, the driver fled the vehicle and ran southbound into a field. Sergeant Wooten then gave chase, and apprehend the driver a short distance from the rest park.

Further investigation discovered that Stokes was wanted on warrants through Spencer County, reference Probation Violation, and Dubois County for Assault Domestic Battery. Stokes was then transported to the Spender County Jail where he is facing additional local charges.
