Marcia Ann (Green) Gwaltney, a lifelong teacher, died from COVID-19 on Saturday, September 26, 2020, at the age of 71 at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, IN.
Marcia was born on April 19, 1949 in Decatur County, IN
to Patricia Ann (Elliott) and Louis Green.
She was a proud graduate of Burney High School in 1967 and Ball State University in 1970.
She moved to Salem, IN, and worked at Salem Community Schools as an Elementary Teacher (mostly 2nd grade) for four decades.
It was her only place of employment throughout her life.
Marcia was one of the happiest people on Earth. She loved learning and sharing her joy and knowledge with others. She loved nature and crafting with natural things. She loved reading; but most of all reading to her students, friends, children, and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, James Gwaltney, son, Matthew (Robyn) Gwaltney, daughter, Megan (George) Napier, her 5 grandchildren: Gretta and Gus Hanjorgiris and Lucia, Nova, and Tulsi Gwaltney, her brother, Bob (Billie Jo) Green, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her mother, father, and one brother.
In order to honor Marcia’s last wishes, her Celebration of Life service is pending the pandemic.
Family and friends will be notified when it can take place safely.
