A Huntington man was arrested for OWI while transporting his two-year-old son.
Chaz Lengacher, 33, 612 East First Street, Huntingburg, IN was stopped last night near Otwell.
He was arrested and charged with:
- Neglect of a Dependent, Class 6 Felony
- Operating a Vehicle with a Passenger less than 18 years of age, Class 6 Felony
- Leaving the Scene of a Crash, Class A Misdemeanor
- Reckless Driving, Class A Misdemeanor
- Public Intoxication, Class B Misdemeanor
Last night at approximately 8:52, Pike County Dispatch received a 911 call regarding a single-vehicle crash at the corner of CR 1000 East and CR 325 North near Otwell.
The caller also reported a male and a small child were standing outside the truck. Pike County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on the scene at approximately 9:05 p.m. but didn’t find the driver or child. Trooper Angermeier arrived on the scene and a search of the area was conducted.
Moments later, Deputy Collier located the male driver and the child near a cornfield approximately ½ mile away from the crash site. The driver was identified as Chaz Lengacher, 33, of Huntingburg, and the child, was identified as Lengacher’s two-year-old son.
Lengacher displayed signs of impairment and failed field sobriety tests. Officers on the scene were able to determine Lengacher was driving his 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck when he lost control and crashed into a ditch.
Lengacher’s two-year-old son received minor injuries and was checked by Pike County EMS. The two-year-old did not require hospitalization and was released to his mother. Lengacher refused medical treatment at the scene.
Further investigation revealed Lengacher had a blood alcohol content of .12%. He is currently being held without bond in the Pike County Jail.
