2024 Solar Eclipse Salem, Indiana

A Total Solar Eclipse will be passing through Indiana on April 8, 2024.

The path of totality will be about 115 miles wide and will stretch from near Friendship to Frankfort the center line entering Indiana around Vincennes and passing just north of Bloomington and south of Indianapolis and exiting Indiana just outside of Union City.

There will be special viewing of the event at Salem Speedway. Salem is on the Southernmost tip of the path of totality, which will end just to the northwest of the town limits of Pekin.

Timing for the event will be about 2p with the lower right edge of the sun being covered and progressively getting completely covered until there is darkness beginning about 3p.

At 3:05p, the moon will be in front of the sun and you’ll be able to see the total eclipse with the suns rays poking out from behind the Moon.

You will get to see this for the next 3 minutes and then the moon will move away, slowly revealing more and more of the sun until it’s fully back to normal at 4:17p

If you want to see the longest instance of darkness you’ll need to travel to the southwest.

Anyone from the U.S. who wants to experience the maximum duration of totality (4 minutes 28 seconds), will need to go to Piedras Negras — and either cross the Eagle Pass–Piedras Negras International Bridge or the Camino Real International Bridge.

If you move closer to the center line along Indiana you’ll get to see over 4 minutes of total darkness — a full minute more than in Salem.
