A 36-year-old Salem man is in jail after making threats to “shoot up” the Salem Walmart on Tuesday morning.
Tuesday at approximately 10:36 a.m., officers with the Salem Police Department responded to Walmart following reports of a disgruntled former employee who had entered the store and allegedly threatened to “shoot up” the location.
The individual was later identified as Jeremy Underwood, 36, of Salem.
At the time the threat was made, Underwood was reportedly armed with a handgun.
Thanks to the swift response of both Walmart employees and Salem Police officers, Underwood was quickly located and taken into custody without incident.
He has been charged with Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon and has been jailed at the Washington County Detention Center.
“We are grateful for the vigilance of our community members and their willingness to report serious incidents such as this,” said Police Chief Eric Mills. “We continue to encourage everyone to remain aware of their surroundings and to promptly report suspicious behavior.”
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
