Kevin Lee Bateman, Sr., age 74 of Salem, passed away Friday, January 16,2026 in his residence.
Born November 25, 1951 in Salem, Indiana, he was the son of the late Garnerd “John” Lee Bateman and Ruth Margarett (Standiford) Bateman.
He had been a life resident of Washington County.
He was a graduate of Eastern High School, class of 1970. After High School he then went on to the U.S. Army in 1971 as a paratrooper. In 1974 he joined the Indiana National Guard, retiring in 2011.
On Feb. 23 2003 he married Deborah Lynn (Tharp) Bateman.
He was a member of the Salem American Legion Cecil Grimes Post #41, Salem V.F.W. Post #6636, the D.A.V. Salem Chapter and he scored deer for Hoosier Record Book and Buck Masters.
Survivors include: Wife: Deborah Lynn (Tharp) Bateman; 3 Sons: Kevin Lee Bateman Jr. of Colorado, Charles Chuck Bateman and Chad Michael Bateman, both of of Salem; 2 Daughters: Christy Bateman and Valorie Dawn Bateman, both of Campbellsburg; 2 Stepsons: Nicholas Tharp and Logan Tincher, both of Salem; 3 Stepdaughters: Jami Mudd of Caneyville, Kentucky, Melanie Tincher of Salem and Jessie Tincher of Louisville, Kentucky.
He is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers.
Funeral Service: 1:00 pm Wednesday 1/21/2026 at Dawalt Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Main officiating.
Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Tuesday and 10 am to 1 pm Wednesday.
