John Patrick Revels, age 72 of Salem, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at his home.
Mr. Revels was born April 3, 1953 in Providence, Rhode Island, the son of Roberta Ann Wingood Byrd. Mr. Revels was a member of the First Baptist Church of Salem. He was also a member of the Blue Knights and the Exchange Club. Mr. Revels was a retired Kentucky State Fugitive officer for the office of Probation and Parole where he worked for 25 years. He also worked as a ski instructor and tube hill manager at Paoli Peaks, was a Deputy at Harrison County, was a Park Ranger and worked security for Buffalo Trace Park in Palmyra for 30 years, he was a Washington County Councilman for 12 years, was a Washington County Precinct Committee Chair person, a Washington County Deputy Coroner, a Criminal Justice Instructor for Eastern Kentucky University, and worked security for Kroger. He was also a Transport Driver for John Jones for 20 years.
Mr. Revels is survived by his wife Jody, who he married on April 18, 1998. He is also survived by his son, Brian Christopher “Chris” Patrick Revels of Salem, his brother, Joey Byrd of Dallas, North Carolina, his sister, Mona Whipple of Texas and his nieces and nephews: Jade Byrd, Dawn Lauer, Sarah Gleason, Rachel Gleason, Krystal Terrel, Ashley Gann, Jesse Gleason, Daniel Byrd, Jason Lauer, Joseph Nix and Kaelin Nix.
Mr. Revels is preceded in death by his mother and his brother, Theodore Byrd.
Services will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2026 at 10:00A.M. at Weathers Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 2:00-6:00P.M and on Thursday morning, from 9:00 until the time of service. Burial will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery following the services.
