Larry “Bub” Cleo Jackson, age 83 of Borden, passed away in his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Larry’s Hobbies were driving his John Deer with a smile, piddling in his garage, and working on Vehicles. He was known for Loving on his wife and being the most selfless man, who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years: Sharon Jackson; 2 Children: Teresa Rone (Curtis) and Michael Jackson (Bobbie); 7 Grandchildren: Beverly Smith (Joe), Trista Galvan (Antonio), Meagan Jackson, Michiah Jackson, Jessica Snyder (Cody), Shaffer Boulet and Parker Boulet; 10 Great-Grandchildren: Makayla Montgomery (Joseph), Kaden Berks, Jazmine Galvan, Andres Galvan, Blake Smith, Bailey Smith, Abraham Silvestre, Audrey Sanchez, Colton Snyder and Austin Snyder; 2 Great-Great Grandchildren: Elias Montgomery and Liam Montgomery; 1 Brother: Randy Jackson and 4 Sisters: Phyllis Burns (Freddie), Beverly Jo Chumbley (Jimmy), Vicki Jackson and Jackie Coats.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Leo and Betty Jackson; Mother-in-Law: Mary Feeler; Father-in-Law: Woody Feeler; 3 Brothers: Roger Jackson, Gary Jackson and Dallas Jackson and 1 Daughter: Monica Lynn Jackson.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home – Borden Chapel, with Jon Sweetland officiating. Burial to follow at Swayback Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 from 4:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M and on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M until the time of service at the Funeral Home.

Xfinity Race Postponed until Monday; Daytona 500 Still on For Sunday

Due to inclement weather at Daytona International Speedway, the “United Rentals 300” NASCAR Xfinity Series event has been postponed until Monday, February 19.
WSLM 97.9 FM coverage will begin at 11:00 a.m. ET.

The National Weather Service is calling for rain late Saturday evening through Sunday, which is now showing a 90% chance of rain, with between 1 and 2 inches possible.

No changes to the Great American Race schedule have been made yet.

WSLM will make an announcement from NASCAR as soon as possible.

Vickie Lynn McClellan, 64, Palmyra

Vickie Lynn McClellan, age 64 of Palmyra, passed away February 16, 2024 in her home.

Mrs. McClellan was born August 17, 1959 in Louisville Kentucky. The daughter of Bobby McNeill Sr. and Joyce Dean Vaughn McNeill.

Mrs. McClellan is survived by her husband Jason, they were married on January 26, 1992. She is also survived by her brother: James McNeill (Monica) of Palmyra, a sister: Kim Clare (Andy) of Corydon, a sister-in-law: Amy Whistler of Salem, a brother-in-law: Phillip McClellan of Salem, four nieces, four nephews, five great nieces and six great nephews.

Mrs. McClellan is preceded by her parents, her daughter Kelley Newlin, son-in-law, Danny Newlin, her grandson, Austin Newlin and her brother, Bobby McNeill Jr.

Services will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 6:00P.M. at Weathers Funeral Home. Visitation will also be on Tuesday from 3:00P.M until the time of service, at the funeral home.

Brenda K. Calloway, age 62, of Salem, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024 in her home, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Calloway was born August 12, 1961 in Salem, Indiana. The daughter of Robert Voyles and Edna Stewart Voyles. She loved her family and she loved cooking and taking care of the home.

Mrs. Calloway is survived by her husband Steven, they were married August 1, 1987. She is also survived by her sons: Kenneth Hemmingway Jr. of Salem and Kyle Calloway of Palmyra, her daughters: Jennifer Mudd (Kenneth) of Jeffersonville and Samantha Calloway (Perry Been) of New Albany. She is also survived by her brothers: Ronnie Voyles of Salem and Tommy Voyles of Salem and her sisters: Katie Kramer of Salem, Connie McDill of Salem, Tena Hursey of Pekin and Teresa Day of Salem. Mrs. Calloway is also survived by her three grandchildren: Kennen Hemmingway, Damon Hemmingway and Leon Been.

Mrs. Calloway is preceded by her parents, and her sister, Delores Barger.

Services will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 2:00 at Bunker Hill Church.

Visitation will also be on Tuesday, February 20 from 10:00A.M until the time of service. Burial will follow after the services at Bunker Hill Cemetery.

Vernon “Vernie” Canoles, 79, Paoli

Vernon “Vernie” Canoles, 79, Paoli, Indiana who Passed February 15, 2024 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. Born August 19, 1944, in Decatur, IL. He was the son of Herman and Vialo Canoles, both of whom preceded him. He married Sandra King on May 31, 1965.

Vernon worked for Lance Inc. as a Route Salesman for 37 years.

He was a Freemason and a member of the Paoli Masonic Lodge 119 F & AM

Vernon was an avid golfer and fisherman.

He also enjoyed spending time at the Country Club with his friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, February 19, 2024 at Dillman-Scott Funeral Home, 226 W Campbell Street, Paoli, IN 47454.

Interment to follow at the Paoli Community Cemetery.

Visitation to be held Monday, February 19, 2024 from 11 AM to 1:00 PM also at the funeral home. Masonic Services to be held at 12:30 PM.

Final list of Local Candidates after Primary Filing Deadline

Washington County Clerk Stephanie Rockey has released a list of candidates certified for the May 7 Primary election.

Only Republican candidates filed for major positions such as clerk, treasurer, recorder, coroner, surveyor, commissioner and council.

The only four Democratic candidate filings were for at-large convention delegates.

Stephanie Rockey filed to run as county clerk and is unopposed in the primary for the Republican nominee.

Mary Durbin filed to run against Republican Incumbent Nancy Coats for county treasurer for the GOP nomination in the May primary.

Shawnda Keltner is running unopposed as the Republican nominee for county coroner.

Emily Rodman will be seeking the Republican nomination for county surveyor and is unopposed.

Troy (Ozzy) Spears Jr. filed to run against Republican incumbent Phil Marshall for the nomination for County Commissioner District 1.

Tony Cardwell Jr. filed to run against Republican incumbent Rick Roberts for the nomination for County Commissioner District 3.

Five have filed to seek the Republican nomination in a field seeking three seats on the County Council as At Large members.

Incumbents Mark Bubba Abbott and Rondale Brishaber have filed to seek re-election while Todd Armstrong, Brad Gilbert and Andrew Davisson have filed to get a nomination for the Council.

Max J. Greene has filed and is certified to run in the 2024 General Election, as a Libertarian, for the office of Washington County Surveyor.

To clear up any confusion, his name will not be on the ballot until the General Election, said Rockey.

Earlier in the week Rick Voyles filed the appropriate paperwork to withdrawal his previous candidate filing for County Council. His withdrawal from the race has been filed and accepted.
