English Man Arrested For Battery on Infant Child

On Monday, February 12th, 2024, Detective Sergeant Brock Werne was contacted by the Crawford County Department of Child Services about an investigation into Cameron Watts, 26, for battering an infant.

The infant required immediate medical attention at the Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, for severe, life-threatening brain injuries.

Throughout the next couple of days, information and evidence was obtained to support charges being filed by the Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office.

On February 16th, 2024, an arrest warrant was issued for Watts.

On Monday, February 19th, 2024, Watts was arrested at the Crawford County Department of Child Services without incident and transported to the Crawford County Jail where he is being held on bond.

Watts, 26, English, IN, was arrested and charged with: 

  1. Domestic Battery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury to a Person Less than 14 Years Old – Level 3 Felony
  2. Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury – Level 3 Felony

Arresting Officers – Detective Sergeant Brock Werne and Trooper Connor Giesler

Assisting Officers – Detective Robert Bennett and Detective Steven Peyton

Assisting Agencies – Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, Crawford County Department of Child Services, Crawford County EMS, and English Fire Department

All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Boys Sectionals Start February 27; State Finals on March 30

The opening two weeks of pairings have been announced for the 114th Annual IHSAA Boys Basketball State Tournament presented by the Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever.

Sectional games are scheduled to begin Tuesday, Feb. 27, and run through Saturday, March 2 with regionals on Saturday, March 9.

Salem, Eastern and West Washington all open sectional action on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

The Salem Lions (3-18) will take on Silver Creek (12-8) on Tuesday, Feb. 27 in the first game of the Class 3A Scottsburg sectional. 

North Harrison will play Scottsburg in the second game followed by Charlestown and Corydon. 

Madison drew the bye and will play the winner of the Salem – Silver Creek game. 

West Washington opens the Class 1A Borden Sectional with Christian Academy in the first game followed by Lanesville and South Central in the second game. 

Eastern opens the 2A Sectional at Southwestern Hanover on February 27 in the first game against Providence. 

Clarksville plays Southwestern in game two followed by Henryville and Brownstown. Austin drew the bye and will play the winner of the Eastern – Hanover game. 

For the second year, the regional is a single-game championship, and the semi-state a two-game affair with the winner advancing to the state championship game.

Two regional championship games will be played back to-back at the same site with the winners finding out their next opponent and host site the following day.

The semi-state games – scheduled for Saturday, March 16 – will be randomly drawn and announced in a special pairings show via the IHSAA network. 

The four state championship games that make up the State Finals will be played at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in downtown Indianapolis on Saturday, March 30.

That date is a week later than normally scheduled due to Gainbridge Fieldhouse hosting the NCAA Men’s Basketball First and Second Round Tournament games.

Larry “Bub” Cleo Jackson, age 83 of Borden, passed away in his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Larry’s Hobbies were driving his John Deer with a smile, piddling in his garage, and working on Vehicles. He was known for Loving on his wife and being the most selfless man, who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years: Sharon Jackson; 2 Children: Teresa Rone (Curtis) and Michael Jackson (Bobbie); 7 Grandchildren: Beverly Smith (Joe), Trista Galvan (Antonio), Meagan Jackson, Michiah Jackson, Jessica Snyder (Cody), Shaffer Boulet and Parker Boulet; 10 Great-Grandchildren: Makayla Montgomery (Joseph), Kaden Berks, Jazmine Galvan, Andres Galvan, Blake Smith, Bailey Smith, Abraham Silvestre, Audrey Sanchez, Colton Snyder and Austin Snyder; 2 Great-Great Grandchildren: Elias Montgomery and Liam Montgomery; 1 Brother: Randy Jackson and 4 Sisters: Phyllis Burns (Freddie), Beverly Jo Chumbley (Jimmy), Vicki Jackson and Jackie Coats.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home – Borden Chapel, with Jon Sweetland officiating. Burial to follow at Swayback Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 from 4:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M and on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M until the time of service at the Funeral Home.

Xfinity Race Postponed until Monday; Daytona 500 Still on For Sunday

Due to inclement weather at Daytona International Speedway, the “United Rentals 300” NASCAR Xfinity Series event has been postponed until Monday, February 19.

Vickie Lynn McClellan, 64, Palmyra

Vickie Lynn McClellan, age 64 of Palmyra, passed away February 16, 2024 in her home.

Mrs. McClellan was born August 17, 1959 in Louisville Kentucky. The daughter of Bobby McNeill Sr. and Joyce Dean Vaughn McNeill. 

Mrs. McClellan is survived by her husband Jason, they were married on January 26, 1992. She is also survived by her brother: James McNeill (Monica) of Palmyra, a sister: Kim Clare (Andy) of Corydon, a sister-in-law: Amy Whistler of Salem, a brother-in-law: Phillip McClellan of Salem, four nieces, four nephews, five great nieces and six great nephews.

Mrs. McClellan is preceded by her parents, her daughter Kelley Newlin, son-in-law, Danny Newlin, her grandson, Austin Newlin and her brother, Bobby McNeill Jr.

Services will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 6:00P.M. at Weathers Funeral Home. Visitation will also be on Tuesday from 3:00P.M until the time of service, at the funeral home.
