Rep. Todd Young (R-IN9) has announced that 9th District staff members are accepting nominations for the 2015 Congressional Veteran Commendation (CVC), a program in conjunction with Hoosier Veteran Voices designed to formally honor distinguished veterans and preserve their stories for future generations.

th (3)

“Our service men and women deserve the utmost gratitude for their sacrifices to this nation, and it’s the responsibility of each of us to ensure that their patriotic service does not go unrecognized,” said Young, who is himself a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. “Each year the CVC gives us the opportunity to honor those brave soldiers, sailors, and Marines who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to protect the freedoms we all enjoy. Indiana has a proud tradition of military service, and I have personally met with numerous Hoosier veterans deserving of this honor, which is why I’m encouraging constituents to nominate a veteran living in the Ninth District.”

In order to be considered for this award, nominees must currently reside in Indiana’s Ninth Congressional District, have served as active duty military personnel or been reservists called to active duty, and be retired or honorably discharged from a branch of the United States Armed Forces. Leadership and service to community will also be considered in the selection process.

CVC recipients are selected by a board and are publicly honored during a special ceremony to take place later this year. In addition, an in-depth interview of each honoree may be conducted and forwarded to the Veterans History Project to be added to the Library of Congress collection should the veteran choose to participate.

Anyone may serve as a nominator and may nominate as many veterans as desired. Complete nomination packets should be mailed or hand-delivered to Young’s local office no later than Friday, June 26, 2015. Those interested in nominating a deserving veteran for this honor should visit Young’s website, a nomination form can be found under “Veteran Commendation.”

For additional information regarding the CVC, please contact the Jeffersonville Constituent Service Center at (812) 288-3999

Indiana’s 9th District includes all or parts of Brown, Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Jackson, Johnson Lawrence, Monroe, Morgan, Orange, Scott, and Washington Counties in south central Indiana.

On Monday, May 4, Trooper Jeremy Galloway began an investigation into the possible theft of a 1998 BMW motorcycle from Rosetta Allbright. Allbright asked a friend to retrieve the motorcycle from the home of Gabberd, Allbright’s ex-boyfriend.

Gabberd informed the friend that the motorcycle and title were both gone, but did not know where they had gone.

After searching impound lots in the surrounding counties, Trooper Galloway and Trooper Kurtis Blunk found that the motorcycle had been involved in a crash in Huntingburg on May 5, and was in the impound lot at Kars Garage in Huntingburg. Through Trooper Galloway’s investigation, he learned that Gabberd had sold the motorcycle to Walz. At the time of the sale, both Gabberd and Walz knew that the motorcycle belonged to Allbright.

Galloway located both Walz and Gabberd at their residences Wednesday evening. They were both taken into custody and transported to the Spencer County Jail.
