AT&T’s 4G Network

AT&T constantly invests in its network to give customers the high-quality services they need to stay connected.  AT&T is adding the latest in network technology, such as small cells, to ensure customers have wireless service where they need it most.  The company is also using distributed antenna systems, which can improve service in crowded areas or large structures, like a sports stadium.

Over the last six years (2009-2014), AT&T invested nearly $140 billion including investments in its wireless and wireline networks and acquisitions of wireless spectrum and operations.  Since 2009, AT&T has invested more in the United States than any other public company.  In a September 2014 report, the Progressive Policy Institute ranked AT&T No. 1 on its list of U.S. “Investment Heroes,” a ranking AT&T has achieved for the third straight year.

Practice rounds begin tomorrow. The tournament itself is scheduled for Thursday, May 21-Sunday, May 24.

Complications With Stop Light on State Road 56 Bridge Project

0
With just a week into the construction of the State Road 56 bridge over Highland Creek and CSX railroad track, motorists have not made the traffic delays easy to tolerate.
INDOT officials are reminding motorists to keep an eye on the newly installed traffic lights.
“We’re having some difficulty with the traffic signals. At the west end, where State Road 60 comes in…when they take a left turn, they’re either taking the turn into the yellow or red because they’re heading into oncoming traffic from the traffic moving westbound,” said INDOT spokesperson Harry Maginity. “Our timing of the signal is OK. But we’ve pushed the timing out a bit. If we push it out too long, then at night you’ll have a prolonged wait for traffic to move. It’s not a good situation, regardless of the situation. Maybe law enforcement will have a good idea on how to handle it.”IMAG1819_1 (1) IMAG1806
The Indiana Department of Transportation has restricted traffic to the single 11-foot lane at the State Road 56 bridge.  Motorists will be routed to the north side of the bridge where temporary traffic signals allow traffic to cross the span one direction at a time.

This alternating traffic pattern should continue for approximately 45 days while rehabilitation work is being done on the south half of the steel beam structure.

E & B Paving, the state’s prime contractor for this $774,725 Seymour District bridge project on S.R. 56, is charged with patching pavement and replacing expansion joints before installing a 3/8-inch polymeric overlay on the bridge deck. Work includes new pavement approaches and mud wall construction.

INDOT officials note that traffic signal cycles must be slowed to accommodate eastbound S.R. 60 traffic as well as S.R. 56 traffic at the west end of the bridge.

Traffic count is 10,430 vehicles per day.

West Side of Public Square Closed To Traffic Wednesday

0

According to the Salem Police Department, the west side of the Public Square will be closed to traffic on Wednesday.

All Southbound traffic around the Salem square will be routed to West Walnut Street and down Water Street beginning at 7a Wednesday morning. Salem_IN_Courthouse

Joey Wheeler, Assistance Police Chief, said the engineering group was expected to arrive at approximately 7:30a and leave at approximately 5p. Traffic will resume normal flow after 5p.

“As we do during Friday Night on the Square, we do expect delays and backups at these intersection due to the truck traffic,” said Wheeler. “Please plan ahead and avoid this area if possible.”

Wheeler said the east half of the square will remain open and there will be no alterations to the Northbound traffic.

“Do remember not to travel on the inside lane of the square, as you will not be allowed to enter the West half,” noted Wheeler. “Unnecessary merging could create back-ups”

Arsee Engineers Inc. will be setting up a crane to inspect the Washington County Courthouse.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” wrote Wheeler in a press release issued this afternoon. “However, it is important we repair and maintain the most visible and recognizable symbol of our community and we appreciate your cooperation with this matter.”

Kimmel Involved in Late Race Accident Settles for 11th Place Finish at Toledo

0

Frank Kimmel returned to the driver’s seat making his 494th career ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards start in Sunday’s Menards 200 presented by Federated Auto Care at Toledo Speedway.

Already the series’ all-time winner, Kimmel was looking to cash in on his success with his 10th overall career victory at Toledo Speedway. Armed with a strong No.25 Ansell-Menards Toyota, Kimmel qualified sixth for the event.

Riding in the top-5 most of the day Kimmel was ready to make his move towards the front and challenge for the lead. After a late race caution the race was seemingly going to be decided with a 20-lap shootout with Kimmel running in the third position behind race leader Grant Enfinger and the second place car of Austin Wayne Self.

“We had a great car all weekend long. Grant (Enfinger) was definitely the class of the field today and I don’t think we were going to do anything with him but I felt we had the second best race car for most of the day,” said Kimmel.

Unfortunately for Kimmel, on lap-180 while going into turn three the race leader, Enfinger slowed drastically with transmission issues causing the front running cars to stack up. Unable to see through the car of Self in front of him, Kimmel had nowhere to go and was collected in a five car accident.

“There’s really nothing more I could have done there to avoid that wreck. I was running really hard trying to get around the 98 car (Self) for second place when I guess Grant (Enfinger) broke a transmission. I couldn’t see Grant beyond the car in front of me. So when he stopped, the 98-car plowed into him leaving me and the guys behind me with nowhere to go,” said Kimmel.

With severe hood damage to his Ansell- Menards Toyota Kimmel lost his position as he had pit to repair damages. Kimmel reentered the race three laps down ultimately salvaging an 11th place finish.

Kimmel’s teammate, Todd Gilliland who was running in the sixth position at the time of the accident, would survive the melee and go on to earn his first career ARCA win.

“Congratulations to Todd and his family. The Venturini team had two top-5 cars all day long and either one of them could have won the race, and one of them did,” said Kimmel.

Kimmel will step aside this coming weekend while his No.25 driving teammate, Brandon Jones, jumps back behind the wheel at New Jersey Motorsports Park for next Sunday’s running of the ARCA 150 presented by Unique Pretzels. The New Jersey race marks the sole road course event of the ARCA season.

Kimmel will return to action in two weeks when the ARCA series visits Pocono Raceway on June 6th.

DNR looking at high powered rifles for Deer Season

0

The Indiana Natural Resources Commission will meet tomorrow (Tuesday) to discuss a few proposals, one of them, is pretty controversial.Model 425

The proposal would allow hunters to use any center-fire rifle caliber larger than .243 during the annual firearms deer season in Indiana, which means high-powered rifles like a 30-30.

Some hunters are frustrated by the current limitations of pistol calibers because there isn‘t as much velocity, which means hunters have a shorter range. On the other side, you have a safety issue with bullets that travel longer distances.

Phil Bloom with the Department of Natural Resources says the D-N-R doesn‘t support the measure, though they did get thousands of responses on the issue when they asked for public opinion.

Bloom says the responses were evenly divided between those for, and those against high-powered rounds.

The agency isn‘t supporting the measure though, which doesn‘t bode well for tomorrow‘s commission vote, as the commission rarely votes against a recommendation from the Department of Natural Resources.

Both Kentucky and northern Michigan allow high-powered rounds.

INDOT Restricts Lanes This Week At S.R. 135 Ohio River Bridge

0
The Indiana Department of Transportation will limit traffic to a single lane this week at the State Road 135 bridge that spans the Ohio River near july0021_ohioriver_
Motorists will be directed—one direction at a time—by flaggers.

INDOT bridge engineers and technicians will be on site with reach-all trucks, man-lifts and other equipment to make close-up fracture-critical inspections above, below and on the 2-span steel truss structure that measures 3100 feet—end to end.  These routine inspections occur every two years.

S.R. 135’s southbound lane is scheduled to be closed Monday and Tuesday (MAY 18 & 19) between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.  The northbound lane is expected to close Wednesday and Thursday (MAY 20 & 21) during those same hours.  If bridge inspections can be accomplished sooner than anticipated, the timeline for lane closures will be shortened.  All work is weather-dependent.

This S.R. 135 bridge at Mauckport is the only Ohio River crossing between Louisville and Tell City.  It was first opened to traffic in 1967.
