Police in Medora, French Lick and Bedford Busy With Meth Busts

Area police have been busy this week finding more than 150 one pot meth labs in the WSLM listening area.

Seven people were arrested in connection with a crystal methamphetamine operation in Jackson County, Indiana on Thursday.

Det. Ben Rudolph was contacted by detectives with the Bedford Police Department who provided information which led to the arrests of multiple individuals in Medora.

Det. Rudolph applied for a search warrant for a residence located at 114 N. Jackson St. in Medora, IN.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team was called to assist in the execution of the search warrant.

During the search of the residence a large amount of crystal methamphetamine was located, large amounts of US currency, and various other drug paraphernalia items throughout the home.

  • Anthony Lane, 45, faces distribution of methamphetamine charges, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of paraphernalia charges.
  • Ronetta Lane, 43, and Jennifer East are charged with possession of a controlled substance, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of paraphernalia.
  • Joshua Lane, 23 – charged with maintaining a common nuisance and possession of paraphernalia.
  • Tucker Brewer, 19 – charged with possession of marijuana and visiting a common nuisance
  • Joseph Blake, 40, faces charges of possession of paraphernalia and visiting a common nuisance and Talia Blake, 33 stands charged with visiting a common nuisance.

 

Detective Rudolph was assisted by law enforcement officers with the Bedford Police Department, Lawrence County Police Department, Brownstown Police Department and Medora Police Department.

This investigation is still ongoing and additional charges could be filed.

Wednesday morning, a French Lick man was arrested after police found more than 150 one pot meth labs, marijuana and drug paraphernalia at his home.

Indiana State troopers, Orange County deputies and an officer from the Paoli and French Lick police departments went to a home on Roosevelt Street in French Lick.

They arrested 36-year-old Frank Willyard.

The Indiana State Police Meth Suppression team secured the scene and disposed of an estimated 150 one pot meth labs and hazardous chemicals used to make the drug. The labs were found in the home and found in the woods near the home.

The investigation is ongoing and is now focused on the individuals that were or are purchasing or supplying items needed to manufacture meth, more arrest are expected.

Three people were also arrested Wednesday after a Bedford Police officer pulled over a vehicle at Steven and Michael avenues.

Police arrested:

  • 41-year-old Christopher Huff of Medora on charges of possession of meth, possession of a legend drug, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a common nuisance.
  • 34-year-old April Hardy of Medora on charges of visiting a common nuisance, possession of meth, possession of a legend drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • 22-year-old Philip Walters of Orleans on charges of visiting a common nuisance, possession of meth, possession of a legend drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Hardinsburg man arrested for rape at firehouse

A Washington County man was arrested Friday on charges of rape that allegedly occured at the Posey Township Firehouse #2.

Kelby Arthur Hash, 21, 7720 Radcliff Road, Hardinsburg, was taken into custody on Friday by the Indiana State Police and booked into the Washington County Jail.  Hash is charged with Rape, a Level Three Felony, and is being held on a $20,000 full cash bond.user29380-1426283008-media1

According to the Indiana State Police, on January 8, 2015, an adult female contacted Harrison County Sheriff’s Detective Shane Mason and alleged she was raped on December 13, 2014 while on a date with a local volunteer firefighter.

The victim alleged she had met the suspect, Hash, and had agreed to meet him for a date. The victim stated that while on the date she was taken to the Posey Township Firehouse #2 located at 333 East U.S. Highway 150 in Hardinsburg, Indiana.

The victim alleged that she was raped while they were alone at the firehouse.

After determining that the alleged crime took place in Washington County, Detective Dave Mitchell of the Indiana State Police in Sellersburg was contacted. Detective Mitchell continued the investigation, and, as a result of his investigation, an arrest warrant was issued by the Washington County Circuit Court for Mr. Hash.

Driver and Two Passengers Remain Hospitalized

The investigation into the charter bus crash on I-65 is continuing today as investigators comb through available data and witness statements. The charter bus was carrying 16 members of the Indiana Institute of Technology (Indiana Tech) men’s and women’s bowling team to Smyrna, Tennessee to compete in a United States Bowling Congress Sectional Competition when it overturned near Henryville, Indiana

The last of the students hospitalized at Scott Memorial Hospital was released at approximately 10:00am Friday. The Driver, the team coach’s wife, and one student remain Hospitalized at University of Louisville Hospital.

The driver of the bus has been identified as Rex Altenburg, 76, of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Jeannine Secrist, 68, Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Indiana Tech student Michaelia Kemp, 18, Fort Wayne, Indiana, are also hospitalized at U of L. All three are listed in Satisfactory or Fair condition.

The remainder of the passengers have been identified as: Larry Secrist (Coach), 76, Fort Wayne, IN; Amy Kimberger (Asst. Coach), 47, Andrews, IN; Torrion Parker, 22, St. Louis, MO; Alexandra Rittenhouse, 18, Huntington, IN; Bryce Leming, 21, Marion, IN; Kyle Koss, 19, Fort Wayne, IN; Alyssa Prickett, 20, Huntington, IN; Samantha Pasch, 21, Indianapolis, IN; Gregory Kimberger, 46, Andrews, IN; Jenna Shaffer, 22, Sydney, OH; Quinton M. French Lick Man Arrested With Meth

After receiving a tip from a concerned citizen Indiana State Police responded to the home of a French Lick man on Wednesday where they found a meth lab in his garage.

Troopers from the Indiana State Police, Orange County Sheriff Deputies, Paoli Police and French Lick officers went to the residence located in the 900 block of South Washington Street in French Lick, Wednesday afternoon.

Kenny Schuley, 50, was arrested on charges of manufacturing meth and possession of drug precursors and taken to the Orange County Jail.

 

When officers arrived they spoke to Schuley about the information they received and he gave them consent to search the property.

Officers found two plastic buckets in the garage that contained several items used to make meth. Other meth lab materials were found outside of the garage.

Colts Cut Richardson and Hill

The Indianapolis Colts cut running backs Trent Richardson and Michael Hill.

Richardson was a bust after the Colts traded a first-round pick for him.

He was suspended for the AFC championship game.

Richardson rushed for 977 yards and six touchdowns in two seasons with the Colts.

Hill was signed by the Colts as a free agent in January and appeared in two postseason games on special teams. He also spent time on the team’s practice squad in November 2014. For his two-year NFL career, Hill has recorded nine rushing attempts for 23 yards and two receptions for 23 yards in eight games played.

He was originally signed by the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri Western State on April 27, 2013 and also spent time with the Green Bay Packers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Washington Redskins.

Hill was signed by the Colts as a free agent on January 6, 2015 and appeared in two postseason games on special teams. He also spent time on the team’s practice squad in November 2014.

In 2014, Richardson appeared in 15 games (12 starts) and totaled 519 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 159 carries, in addition to 229 receiving yards on 27 receptions. He was originally selected by the Browns with the third overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft out of Alabama.

 

21 From Indiana Tech Bowling Team Injured in Bus Crash on I-65

Emergency personnel scrambled to the aid after a charter bus carrying 16 members of the Indiana Institute of Technology (Indiana Tech) coed bowling team was involved in a rollover crash this morning on I-65 southbound near the 22 mile marker.

The bus belongs to Ohio-based Excursions Trailways.

All 21 passengers were transported to three area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

“Our hearts go out to the Hoosiers impacted by this morning’s bus crash in southern Indiana. The State of Indiana is coordinating a multi-agency response, with Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter traveling now to the area,” Indiana Gov. Mike Pence said in a statement. “As law enforcement and emergency personnel respond to this situation, we urge all Hoosiers to hold these men and women in their thoughts and prayers.”

Eight passengers were transported to Scott Memorial Hospital in Scottsburg, one was transported to Clark County Hospital in Jeffersonville, and twelve were transported to University of Louisville Hospital.

Both ground and air ambulances were utilized to transport the injured.

One passenger at U of L Hospital was listed in serious condition.

I-65 southbound was closed for approximately three hours as Indiana State Police Troopers and reconstructionist investigated the crash scene. Traffic was temporarily diverted on to southbound US 31 in Scottsburg.

The crash occurred at approximately 10:25 this morning as the team was traveling to Smyrna Tennessee to compete in a United States Bowling Congress Sectional Competition.

A preliminary investigation reveals that the commercial charter bus was south bound I-65 just north of the Henryville Rest Park when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle partially drove off the east side of the roadway and into the median.

The vehicle then drove back onto the roadway and crossed over both southbound lanes of travel before continuing off the west side of the roadway.

After leaving the roadway, the bus spun clockwise and overturned as it traveled down the embankment on the west side of the interstate. The bus came to rest facing north.

Tour bus rolls over on I-65; multiple injuries, no fatalities

This morning a tour bus rolled over on I-65 Southbound north of Henryville, IN.

There were 5 medical helicopters and 10 ambulances called to the scene, according to emergency personnel.

Multiple injuries were reported and now the patients have all been transported to the University of Louisville.

No fatalities have been reported.

Rumors of a school bus being involved are false. This was a tour bus from Ft. Wayne Indiana.

Traffic Stop for Speed Results in Drug Arrest

A Wednesday afternoon traffic stop landed a Kentucky woman in jail for illegally possessing steroids and needles.

Around 1:30p Wednesday, Master Trooper Brian LaRoche stopped a gray 2012 Ford on the eastbound side of Interstate 64 at the 62 mile marker for speeding.

While speaking with the driver, Jennifer D. Carroll, 24, Brandenberg, KY, M/Trp LaRoche learned that Carroll did not have a valid driver’s license.

M/Trp LaRoche, continuing his investigation, found that Carroll was in possession of 25 glass vials of anabolic steroids without a prescription and numerous hypodermic needles, both of which are Level 6 felonies.

Carroll was placed into custody without incident and lodged in the Dubois County Security Center and charged with Possession of Anabolic Steroids, Level 6 Felony
and Possession of Hypodermic Needles, Level 6 Felony.

ndiana State Police to Conduct Sobriety Check Point in Scott County 

Scott County: Troopers from the Indiana State Police Post in Sellersburg will be conducting a sobriety check point at an undisclosed location in Scott County beginning on the evening hours of March 18, 2015 and ending in the early morning hours of March 19, 2015. Those drivers passing through the check point area should have their licenses and registrations ready to present to troopers. Drivers will only be detained briefly while troopers determine whether further investigation is necessary.

The purpose of the sobriety check point is to remove motorists from the highways who are alcohol or drug impaired and who pose a danger to other motorist. Impaired drivers are responsible for billions of dollars in property damage, personal injury, and death annually.

DAVIDSON MAKES HOOSIER BASKETBALL MAGAZINE TOP 60 SENIOR GIRLS

Salem High School Senior Alex Davidson is on a new list — the Hoosier Basketball Magazine’s Top 60 senior girls¹ basketball players for 2014-2015 as compiled by Garry H. Donna, publisher of Hoosier Basketball Magazine.

These girls were selected from approximately 1,600 senior players statewide.

According to Salem High School Athletic Director Hank Weedin, the girls are competing for the All-star team.  “They will do some workouts and then play a few scrimmage games,” said Weedin. The All-Star team is selected from this group.”

Eight players that participated in the 2015 IHSAA State Finals highlight the list of the Top 60 invitees‹ Josie Fisher (Homestead) and Ali Patberg (Columbus North) from AAAA, Darby Maggard and Katherine Smith (Fort Wayne Canterbury), Peyton Fallis, Sydney Hall and Allison Schofield (Heritage Christian) from AA as well as Olivia Carroll (Barr-Reeve) from Class A.

The Top 60 Senior Workout includes six of the state¹s top senior scorers‹ Patberg (25.7 ppg), Michal Miller, Michigan City (25.5), Laurhen Pickett, Twin Lakes (25.1), Claire Cromer, Wabash (22.6), Samantha Dewey, Triton Central (22) and Stephanie Sherwood, Evansville Memorial (21.1).

Two sessions of the 34th annual Top 60 Senior Workout will be hosted by Hoosier Basketball Magazine in conjunction with the IHSAA and the IBCA on Sunday, March 15th on the campus of Marian University in Indianapolis.

Thirty-two girls of the Top 60, primarily from northern and southern Indiana, will participate in the first session (1:00-3:00 pm EST). The remaining 32 girls of the Top 60, primarily from central Indiana, will compete during the second session (3:30-5:30 pm EST).

Six-time state champion coach Rick Risinger (Heritage Christian) will direct both sessions. Three other outstanding Indiana girls’ high school coaches from the IBCA have been selected to join the 2015 Top 60 staff ‹ Eric Kundich (East Chicago Central), Brittany Maners (Evansville Central) and Casey Pohlenz (Richmond).
