On December 4, Trooper Brock Werne began an investigation after receiving a complaint from the homeowner at 1305 West 15th Street, Jasper. The homeowner said that, on two occasions, he had returned home to find that prescription medications had been taken. Both incidents had occurred after the housekeeper had cleaned the residence.

After gathering information and evidence in the case, officers met today with Vancleave and found that she had a quantity of the stolen pills in her purse.

Vancleave was arrested and charged with Theft.

Further investigation by officers after her arrest unveiled that Vancleave had taken medications from two additional Jasper homes that she performed cleaning services in.

The Indiana State Police would like to remind and encourage homeowners who have prescription medications that they no longer need or use to safely dispose of those medications.

WSLM reported that a late afternoon two-alarm fire on Dec. 2 that damaged a four-plex apartment building in Parkview Apartments on Salem’s east side claimed the life of a resident. The fire was put out by 16 fire fighters, two engines and a ladder.

Day spent about two hours after the fire was extinguished with the Fire Marshall investigating the scene for a cause.

The fire broke out in unit 102, destroying the unit and damaging the other three units in the building. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Salem Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal. Day said the fire likely started in the living room/family room area. Day said fire was shooting out the front windows and door when firefighters arrived.

Day said today that more information on the cause of the fire will be released by the fire marshall.

One apartment was a total loss with an adjacent apartment receiving some smoke and water damage.  Two other apartments in the building received some minor smoke damage.

The department received the alarm at 4:40p Tuesday afternoon and responded to 817 Parkview Drive, Apartment 2 within minutes.

Members of the Salem Fire Department, Salem Police Department and EMS were on scene most of the afternoon.

Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control by about 6p, said Day.

“I have to credit the firefighters for doing a good job of keeping the fire contained to one apartment,” said Day late Tuesday night.

INDOT to begin treating state roads tonight

0

Indiana Department of Transportation’s Seymour District has scheduled drivers to pre-treat state highways and interstates in southern Indiana overnight tonight in response to forecasts calling for falling pavement temperatures that could result in slick roads by morning.

Brine trucks will be dispatched at midnight from INDOT subdistrict facilities at Falls City (Sellersburg) and Madison.  They will pre-treat bridges, ramps, hills and other potentially hazardous areas.  A semi tanker will brine all lanes of Interstate 65 south of Seymour.

INDOT officials remind motorists:  the faster you go, the longer it takes to stop.  Brake early, brake slowly and allow plenty of space between you and the vehicle ahead.  If you have anti-lock brakes, press down and hold; if not, gently pump the brake pedal.  Do not use cruise control where roads could be slick.

For highway information and updates, follow INDOT at http://facebook.com/INDOTSoutheast and http://twitter.com/INDOTSoutheast, or access INDOT’s TrafficWise Traveler Information Service at http://indot.carsprogram.org.
