HOMEGROWN RADIO CHRISTMAS BENEFIT FOR SHOP WITH A COP

0

WSLM is BRINGING YOU AN OLD FASHIONED COUNTRY CHRISTMAS STRAIGHT OUT OF NASHVILLE.

WSLM’s HOMEGROWN RADIO LIVE is getting in the Christmas spirit and planning our first ever Christmas concert coming up on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 7p in the Salem Middle School Auditorium.

Christmas Radio Special

WSLM 1220 AM is a member of the Country Music Association and White attended the CMA AWARDS show in early November and attended the taping of the CMA COUNTRY CHRISTMAS show.

“The CMA Christmas show was so wonderful and the decorations really got me in the mood for Christmas,” said White. “We’ve been working to include Nashville artists in an area concert and it’s appropriate that we’ve been able to do this for the holiday season. I love this time of the year.”

“I’m super excited and ready to get the season kicked off,” said White. “And what better way to celebrate Christmas than with a Christmas concert and giving to those less fortunate.”

White and WSLM HOMEGROWN RADIO co-host George Napier have created the first-ever WSLM HOMEGROWN RADIO CHRISTMAS SHOW set for Dec. 6 at 7p to benefit Shop with a Cop.

The event will be at the Salem Middle School Auditorium and feature local and regional acts singing classic Christmas tunes.

“Rusty Bladen will kick things off,” said White. “Rusty is from Madison, IN and has played around Southern Indiana for several years. And we just signed Borrowed Blue and Stephen Hunsley, both Nashville recording artists. They will close out the show.”

White said local favorites Country Bourne, Moonshine and Berries, Short Notice Band, Hoot von Woot (Napier’s group featuring his wife, Megan), Deb Lyle Doyle and others will be performing.

Napier said, “Hoot Von Woot is much honored to perform for such an awesome cause for our great community.”

“We even have Judge Bret Raper from Bloomington who wrote a tribute song last year for Don Fischer,” said White. “He wanted to be involved to help out and play the fiddle.”

White said the eight groups take the stage beginning at 7p. The Nashville groups will be closing out the show and a finale is planned including all the groups.

“We have 30-plus Christmas songs,” said White. “Also we have some surprises between acts. It’s going to be a fun show that nobody will want to miss!”

Get your tickets today at these locations — Country Cookin, Old National Bank, First Savings Bank, Mid Southern Savings Bank, Links Clothing, Salem Crossing and the Washington County Chamber of Commerce – just $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.

“Where else could you go hear this many great Christmas songs from great groups in the area? A family of four can spend a great evening together and help others – all for less than the price of a trip to the movies,” said White. “And the best thing – other than the music – is that 100 percent of the ticket sales goes to Shop with A Cop so needy children in Washington County can get basic necessities for Christmas – clothing, socks, shoes, underwear, a coat and a toy.”

Opportunities to Give Blood in December

The American Red Cross asks eligible donors to give something that means something this holiday season – a lifesaving blood donation.

Blood donations often decline this time of year when donors get busy with holiday festivities and travel. Severe winter weather and seasonal illnesses, like the flu, can also have a serious impact on blood donations, but the need for blood remains steady. On average, the Red Cross must collect 15,000 blood products every day for patients across the country.

Eligible donors with all types are needed, especially those with O negative, A negative and B negative. To learn more about donating blood and to schedule an appointment, download the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

Section 8 Voucher Program Open for Lawrence County

0

Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority have opened the Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP) Section 8 Waiting List for Lawrence County.

section8-2

IHCDA administers the HCVP in areas of Indiana not covered by a county or municipal housing authority. In Lawrence County the program is administered under a contract with Hoosier Uplands.

The HCVP provides rental assistance to individuals and families whose total income falls below the very low-income level, based on median income in the area.

Applicants for the program are placed on a waiting list for a voucher, which is issued for an eligible unit. There are a very limited number of vouchers available each year. Families should plan to be on the waiting list for some time. Assistance is awarded based on preference points.

A family may be on the waiting list for other public housing programs and still apply for the Housing Choice Voucher Program administered by the IHCDA. Applicants will be asked to designate a county, in which they name will be listed. If the applicant declines to designate a county, their name will automatically be placed on a list in the county from where they apply.

If you believe you are eligible and are in need of clean, safe and decent housing, you may apply in person at the Mitchell Hoosier Uplands office. You may contact the Mitchell office at (812) 849-4447 or (800) 827-2219. The office is located at 500 West Main Street in Mitchell.

You must bring evidence of legal address, such as a copy of driver’s license or state ID, along with a current utility bill, social security cards, birth certificates for all household members. If you are employed full time bring in a most recent paystub. If you are disabled bring proof of disability.
