Handgun Found in Ditch After K-9 Search in Daviess County
A K-9 search in rural Daviess County produced a handgun tossed into a ditch line.
Early this afternoon, Troopers with the Jasper Post conducted a K-9 search in the area of County Road 750 North and County Road 550 East, near Epsom. Troopers Mitch Wier and Robert Lambert, along with K-9 “Diesel”, were searching the area for additional evidence related to the Saturday morning pursuit in the area, in which Trooper Wier arrested three on multiple drug charges. While searching, Diesel located a .44 caliber revolver, lying within the weeds.
At this time, Troopers are unclear if this weapon was tossed by the two suspects that were fleeing from Trooper Wier on foot Saturday morning. Further fingerprint testing at the State Police Forensic Laboratory will be conducted to determine who the gun belongs to. What Troopers can confirm is that a handgun that could have possibly been found by a child has been safely secured.
Troopers are continuing their investigation; further information will be released as it becomes available.

Crash Becomes Large Drug Arrest in Daviess County
Three from Daviess County were arrested Saturday on drug charges after an initial investigation into a driver leaving the scene of a property damage crash turned into much more.
Arrested were Shawna D. Campbell, 20, 22 Trail Breeze Kourt, Washington IN, Campbell, along with the other two passengers, Joshua D. Stoll, 18, 4748 East County Road 200 North, Montgomery, IN and Natasha L. Graber, 31, 13767 North State Road 58, Elnora, IN , were charged and arrested for the drug materials in the vehicle.
Campbell was charged with
– Possession of Methamphetamine, Level 6 Felony
– Possession of Marijuana over 30 Grams, Level 6 Felony
– Unlawful Possession of a Syringe, Level 6 Felony
– Possession of Paraphernalia, Class A Misdemeanor
– Visiting a Common Nuisance, Class B Misdemeanor
Stoll was charged with
– Possession of Methamphetamine, Level 6 Felony
– Unlawful Possession of a Syringe, Level 6 Felony
– Possession of Paraphernalia, Class A Misdemeanor
– Visiting a Common Nuisance, Class B Misdemeanor
Graber was charged with
– Possession of Methamphetamine, Level 6 Felony
– Unlawful Possession of a Syringe, Level 6 Felony
– Possession of Paraphernalia, Class A Misdemeanor
– Visiting a Common Nuisance, Class B Misdemeanor
Just before 2:30 Saturday morning, Indiana State Police received a report of a gray Ford F-150 pick-up truck that had driven through a fence at 8363 North County Road 550 East, Epsom, and left the scene.
Trooper Mitch Wier and Daviess County Deputies arrived on scene and spoke with the property owner; he informed officers of who he believed had been driving the truck.
Officers began driving in the area near the scene of the crash, looking for the Ford. At 3:14, officers located the Ford in a church parking lot in Epsom; however, the vehicle was unoccupied.
While waiting for a tow-truck to impound the vehicle, an SUV slowed down on County Road 550 East to turn into the church parking lot. After seeing officers standing near the Ford truck, the SUV continued on CR 550 E and sped away. Trooper Wier, believing the SUV was stopping to retrieve the Ford truck, attempted to stop the SUV by activating his emergency lights. The SUV accelerated, attempting to evade officers.
Three minutes later, the driver of the SUV turned off the vehicle’s lights, pulled into a driveway just off of County Road 800 North, and stopped. After stopping, the driver and one passenger fled from the vehicle on foot. Trooper Wier attempted to pursue the two on foot, but returned to secure the remaining three passengers in the vehicle. Washington PD Officer Derrick Devine and his K-9 partner “Diesel” arrived on scene to attempt to track the two subjects.
While conducting an inventory of the SUV before impounding the vehicle, Trooper Wier located methamphetamine, hypodermic needles, and other drug paraphernalia. The K-9 track did not locate either of the two subjects, but did recover of a purse with a large quantity of marijuana.
Officers found that the purse belonged to one of the three passengers. Officers believe they have determined the identity of the subjects who fled the scene, and will file warrants for their arrest through the Daviess County Court.
Single Vehicle Tractor Accident Claims the Life of a Spencer County Man
A Ferdinand man lost his life this evening in a single vehicle tractor accident northeast of Santa Claus.
The accident claimed the life of Charles W. Kuntz, 60, 9640 East County Road 1700 North, Ferdinand, IN
Police say Kuntz was traveling west on County Road 1700 North, about a mile east of State Road 162, on a John Deere 4020 tractor.
For an unknown reason, the wheels of the tractor locked up, pulling the tractor to the left and off of the south side of the roadway. As the tractor veered off the roadway, it overturned and rolled over Kuntz. Kuntz was pronounced deceased.
Spencer County Dispatched was notified at 5:47 P.M. (CST), with officers arriving on scene at 5:51. The Indiana State Police was contacted to investigate the fatal crash. The Spencer County Sheriff’s Department, Saint Meinrad and Santa Claus Police Department, Santa Claus Fire, and Spencer County EMS assisted at the scene.
Family has been notified.
State Police Find Human Remains in Orange County
Indiana State Police investigators have found human remains at a Paoli home that might be an additional break in a case regarding a missing Orange County woman.
On October 2, while following information into a search for missing person Michelle Fulton of Paoli, State Police investigators, crime scene technicians and anthropologists from the University of Indianapolis uncovered burnt human remains behind a residence at 6226 South County Road 250 East, Paoli.
As a result, Jeffrey Fulton, 48, was charged with murder.
Today, after receiving additional information, investigators searched an area in an open field near the residence.
Human remains were found, which investigators believe to be Michelle Fulton.
The evidence will be sent to the State Police forensic laboratory for DNA testing to officially confirm the identity.
Additional information will be provided once the remains are property identified.
Police Arrest Two North Vernon Murder Suspects
Jody Michael Brooks, 22, of North Vernon, and Jovonnie Antonio Mayes, 21, of Seymour, were arrested on Friday, after police allege that both were involved in the death of 52-year-old Richard Smith.
Smith, who was from Dupont, was found dead by authorities inside a home on North Fifth Street in North Vernon.
Officials with the North Vernon Police and Indiana State Police identified Brooks and Mayes as suspects. The pair was located in Corydon, Indiana in possession of a stolen truck, according to police.
They are being held without bond at the Jennings County Jail on charges of murder, robbery and auto theft.
