Bedford
Friday, Oct. 31 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Fall Carnival
CornerStone Worship Center behind the Marathon station at Judah will be having a Fall Carnival on Friday, October 31 from 6-8 p.m. There will be games, hotdogs, hayridge and S’mores and it is all -Free.

The Hideout

The Hideout, in Judah, will have trick-or -treating on Friday, Oct. 31 from 4:30 p.m. till 8:30 p.m.

Bloomfield
Thursday, Oct. 30 and Friday, Oct. 31 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Children are to only visit homes with the porch lights on.

Bloomington
Friday, Oct. 31 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (one night only)

RCA Community Park
Saturday, October 18 1-4 p.m.
$4/child • Geared toward ages 1-10 yrs.
One adult admitted free with paid child’s admission. $2 each additional adult.
Hi Ho, Hi Ho, into the woods we’ll go. The wooded trail comes to life with characters and stories, oh what a sight!
Put on your costume and grab your bag; there is a lot of fun to be had.

Festival of Ghost Stories
Friday, October 24 • 7-8:30 p.m.
Bryan Park
In case of inclement weather, the Festival of Ghost Stories will be held at the Monroe County Public Library
Free • For older elementary school-age children, teens, and adults. May not be appropriate for younger children.
An ink-black night with leering jack-o’-lanterns and crisp cider set the stage for an evening of live storytelling beneath the stars. A Halloween-time tradition for more than 32 years, the Festival of Ghost Stories features haunting tales of ghosts and horror that will tingle the spine. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and dress warmly to avoid the chill as seasoned storytellers spin their tales in the dark.

Banneker Community Center
Friday, October 24 • 6-8 p.m.
Free • For ages 5-12 yrs. w/parent.
The health and wellness witches are throwing a healthy Halloween Party at the Banneker Community Center, and your entire family is invited! Come in costume and take part in the costume contest, plus have a howling good time playing Halloween games, learning to prepare spooky snacks, trying on some sweet (or scary!) facepainting, and sampling tasty and good-for-you Halloween treats!

Brownstown

Friday, Oct 31 the parade will kick off at 5 p.m. on the city square and go to the gym. Trick or Treating will follow from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

One Stop Safe Trick or Treating
The 19th Annual One Stop Safe Trick or Treating will be held for children 0-12 at Hatfield Elementary School on Friday, Oct 31 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Volunteers will be handing out treats that were donated by or purchased using donations from area businesses, organizations and individuals. The children receive lots of goodies such as: suckers, gum, apples, pencils, candies, snacks and certificates for free food items from area restaurants. They receive plenty so door to door trick or treating isn’t necessary. The event is sponsored by the Mitchell-Grissom Kiwanis Club.Anyone wishing to donate to this program may do so by making checks payable to: One Stop Safe Trick or Treating. We accept donations from $5 on up. Receipts will be issued upon request. Anyone wishing to volunteer to help may contact Ronda or show up at 3:30 p.m. at the Hatfield cafeteria. Friday, Oct. 31 Trick-or-treating will be  from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Trunk-or-Treat will be October 31st at 6pm. We will be having hot dogs, popcorn & drink in the fellowship hall along with the trunk-or-treat experience in our gym. Clothed in Christ (our clothing closet) will be there also passing out coats, blankets, hats & gloves to anyone who needs it.

Seymour

46th Annual Halloween Costume Parade
Seymour Evening Lions Club will conduct its 46th annual Halloween Costume Parade at 6 p.m. Oct. 27.The parade will begin at the U.S. Post Office at Fourth and Chestnut streets and continue to the American Legion parking lot on West Second Street. The Seymour High School Marching Band will lead the parade. Judging of costumes will be by age and categories. Categories are best pet costume, Best Group of 3 and Best Band Member. Prizes will be awarded in each group and category,and treats will be available to all contestants.

Shoals

Hoosier Hysteria Oct. 25 at 6p

The 2014-15 college basketball season begins when Indiana University hold its annual Hoosier Hysteria presented by Smithville on Saturday, October 25, in storied Assembly Hall. Doors will open at 5 p.m., with the program set to formally begin at 6 p.m.

•  The women’s team take the floor for a workout from 5 to 5:30 p.m.  Introductions and team activities will begin for them at 6 p.m.  The men’s team will follow and are expected to have a three-point and dunk contest and a brief scrimmage.

•  Parking is free in and around Assembly Hall and Memorial Stadium and fans are encouraged to come early and tailgate.

•  The Student Athletic Board will be sponsoring a 64-team 3-on-3 basketball tournament on the day of Hoosier Hysteria, October 25th. The tournament will be played in the parking lot just South of Assembly Hall on official portable basketball courts. The tournament will begin at approximately 8:30 a.m. and last until roughly 3:30 p.m.  The championship game will be played at 5:30 p.m. in Assembly Hall. • Admission is free but fans are encouraged to bring a canned food item and donate it to Hoosier Hills Food Bank. Generally, the event brings in 10-12,000 pounds of food.

• Beginning at 10 a.m., there will be a DJ near the 3-on-3 tournament.  An outside edition of the Varsity Shop will be open around 1 p.m.

• The men’s team will sign autographs for an hour after the event on the Assembly Hall concourse. Fans may purchase the traditional IU men’s basketball calendars from the Varsity Shop or a free autograph card will be provided.

• The IU Athletics ticket office, located in the west lobby of Assembly Hall, will be open throughout the day. Fans are encouraged to purchase Mini-Series which will be on sale at Hoosier Hysteria. The Mini Series will include five home games highlighted by Big Ten rival Ohio State on Saturday, January 10, 2015. The package will also include tickets to the Lamar (11/22), Eastern Washington (11/24), UNC-Greensboro (11/28) and New Orleans (12/22) contests.

Mini Series Ticket Pricing:
$100 – Student Mini Series (Will receive priority seating, one student per account)
$210 – Main/Court Level (Limit Four, assigned by priority points after student tickets)
$135 – Balcony Level (Limit Four, assigned by priority points after student tickets)

Christmas Assistance Program applications accepted today

The WASHINGTON COUNTY CHRISTMAS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM will begin taking applications this afternoon at 1p at Southern Hills Church, according to office manager Amy Crane.

Amy Crane from Southern Hills Church appeared on WSLM’s COFFEE CLUB this morning to get the word out about CAP – Christmas Assistance Program, which begins accepting applications today at 1p.
Crane appeared on WSLM’s COFFEE CLUB program this morning and said the program “helps so many kids.”
“One thing some people don’t realize is, they think we just get the kids a gift, but we do an outfit, socks, underwear, a coat and shoes, plus toys. It’s really nice to see these kids get new clothes that are greatly needed. But we do have a cut off date – November 14 — no applications can be accepted after that.”

CAP acts as an umbrella organization, distributing names to Shop With A Cop, the Salvation Army Angel Tree and to groups and individuals through local banks.

Total household income must fall within the guidelines as shown by the Income Guidelines available at Southern Hills. 

 In order to apply for assistance, you must bring the following information with you. Applications will not be accepted without proper ID and complete information.

Identification- photo ID for you and every person living with you who is 18 years or older. A birth certificate for each child.

Proof of Address- current utility bill or rent statement in the name of Head of Household.

Phone Number- A phone number where you can be reached if necessary.

Proof of Eligibility- Most recent Food Stamp Determination Letter, proof that you are currently drawing TANF or proof of income for household, such as SSI, Social Security, unemployment, disability, or most recent pay check stub, etc.

Sizes- We will need Correct Sizes For Each Child for infant through 16 years of age.

Applications Accepted for legislative interns until Oct. 31

The Indiana House of Representatives is now accepting intern applications for the 2015 Indiana Legislative Session.

This paid internship gives college students and recent graduates the opportunity to be a part of Indiana’s legislative process by working directly with state representatives to issue press releases, handle constituent work, conduct research for state policy or even work in the IT department.

Indiana Legislature

The House Republican Intern Program takes place at the Indiana Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis.

People interested in the program may consider internships in Member Services, Communications, Technology, Policy and Fiscal areas.

Applications must be submitted by Oct.31.

Former Bengals Player Fulcher Coming To Salem Tonight

Former Cincinnati Bengals player David Fulcher is coming to Salem, tonight and will be a guest on KFFSC LIVE at the WSLM STUDIOS at 6:30 pm to talk about Fantasy Football.

He played for the Cincinnati Bengals, LA Raiders, and Kansas City Chiefs from 1986-1994.  He now is a football coach and asst. principal in Cincinnati and participates in many worthwhile causes.

Fulcher will then go to McDonalds and be a guest on Coach’s Corner as well as meet and greet fans during the evening.

He will be available for the players to ask him questions and will be on the air with our three area high school coaches, John Dablow, Phillip Bowsman, and RJ Hartsfield for WSLM Radio’s Coaches Corner, along with WSLM SPORTS DIRECTOR Bubba Abbott.

All Salem Park and Recreation Department Youth Football players will be provided a coupon for a free ice cream from Mc Donald’s Restaurant during their visit with Fulcher.

All 12 Youth teams are invited to attend.

This is provided to us through USA Football and the Heads Up Football Program, stressing in communities the importance of coaches training especially in concussion recognition and appropriate response, hydration, proper equipment fitting, among other safety issues. The Salem Parks and Rec. also received a grant for additional helmet during the 2014 season from USA Football.
