BMV expands hours for voters needing photo ID
Don Snemis, Commissioner of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV), announced that BMV license branches will extend hours of operation on Monday, November 3 and on Tuesday, November 4 to issue ID cards and driver’s licenses that may be used for identification at a polling place.
Branches will be open on Monday, November 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday, November 4, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
License branches will only process new, amended or replacement ID cards, and renewed, amended or replacement driver’s licenses, learner permits, and CDLs. Aside from disability placards, the branches will not perform any other BMV services.
The Indiana BMV provides free, state-issued ID cards for voting purposes to any unlicensed Hoosier, as long as he or she can provide proper documentation and is old enough to vote. The following documents are required to obtain a new state ID card or driver’s license (a complete list can be found atwww.myBMV.com).
- Proof of Identity document, such as a birth certificate or passport.
- Proof of Social Security document, such as a Social Security card, pay stub or W-2.
- Proof of lawful status, such as a birth certificate or passport.
- Proof of residency, two documents such as a voter registration card, utility bill or bank statement.
All license branches will resume regular business hours on Wednesday, November 5.

Sign up starting Wednesday for Little Lions Basketball
Attention is turning to basketball and the the Salem Parks and Recreation Department has announced sign ups for Little Lions Basketball, led by SMS Coach Derik Early and SHS Coach Hank Weedin will begin Wednesday, Oct. 22.
The camp is for boys, grades 3rd through 6th, and is for those attending Salem Schools only.
Little Lions will be held in the Salem High School Auxiliary Gym. A practice schedule will be given out the first night of practice and during registration.
Registrations are We in the Salem City Hall Building, 201 East Market Street, unless otherwise noted.

There will be a mandatory coaching clinic immediately following skills testing conducted by Coach Weedin and Coach Early. If you are interested in coaching you must fill out an application in the Park and Rec. Office prior to the clinic. All applications must be Park Board approved after CPS and Criminal Background Checks are conducted.

Handgun Found in Ditch After K-9 Search in Daviess County
A K-9 search in rural Daviess County produced a handgun tossed into a ditch line.
Early this afternoon, Troopers with the Jasper Post conducted a K-9 search in the area of County Road 750 North and County Road 550 East, near Epsom. Troopers Mitch Wier and Robert Lambert, along with K-9 “Diesel”, were searching the area for additional evidence related to the Saturday morning pursuit in the area, in which Trooper Wier arrested three on multiple drug charges. While searching, Diesel located a .44 caliber revolver, lying within the weeds.
At this time, Troopers are unclear if this weapon was tossed by the two suspects that were fleeing from Trooper Wier on foot Saturday morning. Further fingerprint testing at the State Police Forensic Laboratory will be conducted to determine who the gun belongs to. What Troopers can confirm is that a handgun that could have possibly been found by a child has been safely secured.
Troopers are continuing their investigation; further information will be released as it becomes available.

Crash Becomes Large Drug Arrest in Daviess County
Three from Daviess County were arrested Saturday on drug charges after an initial investigation into a driver leaving the scene of a property damage crash turned into much more.
Arrested were Shawna D. Campbell, 20, 22 Trail Breeze Kourt, Washington IN, Campbell, along with the other two passengers, Joshua D. Stoll, 18, 4748 East County Road 200 North, Montgomery, IN and Natasha L. Graber, 31, 13767 North State Road 58, Elnora, IN , were charged and arrested for the drug materials in the vehicle.
Campbell was charged with
– Possession of Methamphetamine, Level 6 Felony
– Possession of Marijuana over 30 Grams, Level 6 Felony
– Unlawful Possession of a Syringe, Level 6 Felony
– Possession of Paraphernalia, Class A Misdemeanor
– Visiting a Common Nuisance, Class B Misdemeanor
Stoll was charged with
– Possession of Methamphetamine, Level 6 Felony
– Unlawful Possession of a Syringe, Level 6 Felony
– Possession of Paraphernalia, Class A Misdemeanor
– Visiting a Common Nuisance, Class B Misdemeanor
Graber was charged with
– Possession of Methamphetamine, Level 6 Felony
– Unlawful Possession of a Syringe, Level 6 Felony
– Possession of Paraphernalia, Class A Misdemeanor

Just before 2:30 Saturday morning, Indiana State Police received a report of a gray Ford F-150 pick-up truck that had driven through a fence at 8363 North County Road 550 East, Epsom, and left the scene.
Trooper Mitch Wier and Daviess County Deputies arrived on scene and spoke with the property owner; he informed officers of who he believed had been driving the truck.
Officers began driving in the area near the scene of the crash, looking for the Ford. At 3:14, officers located the Ford in a church parking lot in Epsom; however, the vehicle was unoccupied.
While waiting for a tow-truck to impound the vehicle, an SUV slowed down on County Road 550 East to turn into the church parking lot. After seeing officers standing near the Ford truck, the SUV continued on CR 550 E and sped away. Trooper Wier, believing the SUV was stopping to retrieve the Ford truck, attempted to stop the SUV by activating his emergency lights. The SUV accelerated, attempting to evade officers.
Three minutes later, the driver of the SUV turned off the vehicle’s lights, pulled into a driveway just off of County Road 800 North, and stopped. After stopping, the driver and one passenger fled from the vehicle on foot. Trooper Wier attempted to pursue the two on foot, but returned to secure the remaining three passengers in the vehicle. Washington PD Officer Derrick Devine and his K-9 partner “Diesel” arrived on scene to attempt to track the two subjects.
While conducting an inventory of the SUV before impounding the vehicle, Trooper Wier located methamphetamine, hypodermic needles, and other drug paraphernalia. The K-9 track did not locate either of the two subjects, but did recover of a purse with a large quantity of marijuana.
Officers found that the purse belonged to one of the three passengers. Officers believe they have determined the identity of the subjects who fled the scene, and will file warrants for their arrest through the Daviess County Court.
