Fair Baby Contest Winners

The Washington County Baby Contest is completed as one of the fair’s first events.

Roseanne Snelling is the contest director for the past 12 years. She noted this would be her last year.

Becky White was the emcee and assisted with the contest, along with Snelling’s daughter, Chandra.

Judges for the event were Ashley Tingle, a student from the University of Southern Indiana, majoring in social work and Katie Newton, Miss Teen Indiana International.

Also helping with the event were Miss Washington County 2013 Chelsi Casey and Miss Pekin Fourth of July Taylor Humphrey.

State Fair Queen to visit Washington County Fair

Indiana State Fair Queen Alyssa Garnett has had plenty of practice being in the spotlight. Her interviewing skills and outstanding on-stage confidence will be useful as she provides the Washington County queen contestants with pointers and insight on pageantry before the 8 p.m. contest at the Washington County Fairgrounds.

The FFA and 7-year 4-H alumnus knows what it is like to be a county queen contestant. Garnett was crowned Miss Pulaski County before receiving the title of the 56^th Indiana State Fair Queen during the final day of the 2013 Indiana State Fair.

The Washington County Pageant will be one of many summer appearances for Garnett. Beyond prepping the contestants, she will speak during the pageant on June 23 promoting the upcoming State Fair, Aug. 1-17.

“I have been attending the State Fair since I was a little girl. Being crowned Miss Indiana State Fair is such an honor to me because I will now have the chance to become involved with the fair in a hands-on way,” Garnett said.

The ambitious Purdue University junior is pursuing her Masters in Business Administration. Garnett is a member of the School of Management Council and a sister of the Delta Gamma sorority.

“I’m so excited to meet the contestants and visit the county,” said Garnett. “I’ve lived in Indiana my entire life, but never had the chance to see many of the counties I will be visiting throughout the summer.”

As Miss Indiana State Fair 2014, Garnett will spend her summer visiting over 30 county fairs, festivals and queen pageants promoting the 2014 Indiana State Fair before serving as the Official Hostess of the State Fair.
